Where can someone breast feed there child?

I clicked on this thread because I was interested in other mommies responses of the good places to breastfeed at WDW. I'm a first time mom, and we are still exclusively breastfeeding (my son is five months old). It has been a hard road but it is turning into such a special relationship that I will be sad when he decides to wean. That being said, I wanted to post that this was a good thread with a lot of constructive comments before one person decided to stir the pot. Comments like the ones made by jon99 are the reason so many women decide not to breastfeed. If you consider your breasts purely sexual objects, you would be embarrassed to breastfeed in public. Until breastfeeding in public or otherwise becomes the norm in America, all of us will have to deal with ignorant people and their comments. So what can we do? Whenever you see a nursing mom in public, smile at her and tell her she's doing a great job. Breastfeed as often as you can in public so people get used to the sight of a nursing mother. And keep doing what's right for your child no matter what anyone says. Nursing mamas unite!

jon99's comments really left me feeling a mixture of upset and anger. I really was fuming and teary eyed! I can't believe he would actually do something like that to a mum and her baby who, IMHO, are doing something perfectly innocent and natural!!

I"m so glad someone else realized this. :goodvibes

I hope all these moms BF "anywhere and everywhere" *without* teenage stalkers or middle aged men with the digitals set to zoom. :sad2:

Me, too! But, I would expect any hormonal teenage heterosexual male to take advantage of a sneek peek if they happened to spot one. Same with twisted, dirty old men! :thumbsup2

It's just odd that a teenage male began this discussion, has a total of 3 posts on the Disboards and continues to login to the Disboard without responding to the question he posted (Last Activity: Today 06:57 AM - Offline).

Still, I agree that BF moms should BF when & where they want. It's just too bad there are people that try to intrude - when it is none of their business. I also feel sorry for the wife of the old guy with the camera! He sure makes himself out to be a real *ss!

Actually, teenage boys (even the otherwise raging hormonal ones!) will not consider breastfeeding sexual if they themselves have been raised around breastfeeding! My 19 year old brother, who is one of those very typical adolescent males, never even COMMENTED when he saw me breastfeeding my son for the first time (db was 17 then). He simply saw it as a non-issue, because trust me, if he saw a woman with her breast just hanging out for no discernable purpose, he would be gawking and making comments, for certain! :rotfl2: He didn't react with shock, embarrassment, curiosity, or anything else, because this is just how babies are fed, in his mind. He was breastfed and has grown up around it. It's totally normal to him. He probably would have commented if I'd been using a bottle,
though, since he has never really been around bottles (whether it be EBM or formula). The best thing we can do for our sons is to breastfeed in front of them from an early age (and breastfeed THEM, obviously!) so as to normalize what should be considered perfectly normal already...but sadly is not. :sad2:

The comment was made because YES, I am offended by women that do this in public.. My wife has BF both of our children, I think its wonderful, but that it also has its place in a public setting..

I have seen women do this in public in a very obvious manner, if they don't have a problem with it thats great, but since I then need to explain things to my children, I have NO PROBLEM whipping my video camera out and making them feel a little embarrassed...

Someone used the example that its ok to do it in public because its natural... So is sex and ************, does that give me and my wife free reign on Main Street USA????

Sex and ************ is indecent exposure. Even if you get a glimpse of a nip in florida from a breastfeeding mother it is not indecent exposure. The two cannot be compared.

And I would be calling security on your butt so fast--you'll be missing your precious video memories as I demand that evidence of your harrassment be destroyed.

My legal right too nurse does not ever entitle you to harrass me or any of my fellow nursing moms.

There are PLENTY of places, I recall my wife sitting in the baby centers for hours on end, why not respect others and do just that???? But instead we have people promoting to just do it wherever the baby gets hungry without thinking of others..

B/c this is Florida.

We don't have to. My right to feed supersedes your right to be an a$$ about it.

Hey! I just wanted to say what an adorable picture!! My sister is due any day with her first baby - and he is "Baby Will" too! My little Paul is so excited about meeting his cousin and talks non-stop about "Baby Will". It's so sweet!

Great attitude by the way! I'm sure you won't have any problems! :goodvibes

The fact that Jon is a highschool teacher gives a big boost to the whole Homeschooling issue. We should send him to that thread. I would homeschool just to keep my kids away from an idiot, harrassing, uninformed, pervert who keeps his wife hidden away while she is trying to feed her baby and want all other women hidden awat to do the same. :furious:

Hey, now! One *alleged* teacher's comments is not enough to make all public schools bad enough to "keep kids away" from. There's tons of awesome teachers out there (including me, I think :goodvibes )- in public schools, private schools or homeschooling. No need to keep any kids away from me. :teacher:

Teenager with 2 photo posts... perverted guy talking about photos talking about taking personal photos... Coincidence? :sad2:

Moms at WDW, believe me when I say that if I see any perverts like Jon stalking you with his video camera, I will be the first to call security for his own protection. If you have a DH like mine, Jon might end up with a video recorder in a very uncomfortable and embarrassing location! :rotfl2:

This is sooo true! I had to pull my laptop away from my dh after he read his comments ;)

I go 6'4", about 240-245... I think I will be ok...

Folks, its my OPINION.. I am offended by people that almost brag about how they feed their children wherever they choose and most men I know feel the same way.. I consider what you are doing rude in many cases, just as you would find it rude if I was taking pictures of you..

I teach third grade, and thank God most of my students this year knew that human mothers can feed their babies milk, so they correctly figured out that we are mammals.

Using your logic, shouldn't it be acceptable for women to walk around in public with no tops just like other mammals and men??? Should us human mammals also have the same sexual habits as other mammals?

What???!!! Jon, how is that logic? What I'm saying is, you seem to be concerned about how to explain to your children what these mothers are doing. I'm saying, children are perfectly capable of understanding breastfeeding without getting all freaky about it. Is your concern that I said humans are mammals? We are, you know. Do I think we are something beyond mammals? Yes, I do. As for you thinking that you speak for all men, I don't think so. My husband and my father (God rest his soul) and my brothers were all very supportive of breastfeeding. Have a happy Father's Day, and give your wife a hug for persisting in breastfeeding your children when it must have been an even greater challenge for her than it is for the rest of us.

Well, I don't "almost" brag about it. I DO brag about it. Breastfeeding is healthy and wonderful and convenient and TOTALLY LEGAL in public.

As for most men feeling the way you do, I certainly haven't found that to be the case, thank God. Honestly, I'd have trouble seeing anyone who is as intimidated as you are by the simple act of a mother feeding a baby as being much of a man at all . . .

If your wife reallly managed to nurse your children for more than a few weeks, then she is a saint and deserves some sort of breastfeeding medal. She did a great things for your children, without, it would seem, much support from you. Obviously, anyone who compares breastfeeding to the things you have, who suggests that nursing women should hide in shame, and harasses mothers feeding their babies really doesn't have any grasp of the wonderful gift your wife gave your babies through the beautiful design of her own body. It's a shame.

And its also totally legal for me to video tape this healthy and wonderful event. So whats the fuss?

Seriously, are you a 12 year old using your daddy's log in? That's the only explanation I can figure out for your idiotic comments here.

I'm writing this guy off now as not worth the energy it takes me to type responses to him, and I hope you all will do the same. Gee, Jon. It's been fun. I hope I run into at Disney World sometime. I'd like to give your wife my condolences in person.

I have to believe that nobody is actually this clueless and mornonic in truth, so he must just be trying to stir up trouble. Let's not give him any more opportunities.

Please, nobody else even respond to this idiot! He's not worth it.

Nursing isn't a sexual habit. It has nothing to do with sex. It has to do with nourishment. It is just plain scary that you are a coach and a teacher.

Wow, now you resort to name calling because I don't agree with you???? How truly pathetic!!!
