Where can I find the best COUNTER SERVICE meal?

The place across from POTC is El Pirata y el Perico. It's our favorite place to eat at the Magic Kingdom. The tacos and taco salad are great and it's never very crowded.

You beat me to it Peggykate. I knew El Pirata Y El Perico and I was excited that I actually knew somthing that some of the other Disney Addicts didn't  I can add that it means The Pirate and the Parrot for those who may not be fluent in Spanish :cool1:

Oh Yeah, I meant to add my picks too!

MK- Pecos bills if you want a good Hamburger with an excellent toppings bar. I hear they also have good chicken wraps.

Cosmic Ray's if you want something a little different than the average counter service food. They have three seperate counters and serve everything from the usual burgers and chicken fingers to excellent soups and salads and even rottiserie chicken and mashed potaots. Oh yeah, and if you sit in the main lounge Sonny E. Clipse will entertain you while you eat :D

I also think Tusker House and Flame Tree (AK) have the best counter service.

This is one of our favorites as well, but it's closed more then it's open. In '04 we were in WDW for a week in May,Oct and Dec and it was never open.

DH and I about fell over when we saw someone carrying a Taco Salad from El Pirata Y El Perico on NYE. That place has not been open for so long we thought for certain it was permanently closed.
I don't recall ever seeing it open in 2004 when I was looking for it. Even on packed days.

AK-Flame Tree BBQ, Tusker House is ok for breakfast but I don't like the lunch (DH does)
MK-El Pirata y el Perico, Caseys
Epcot-Cantina de San Angel (Mexico), Boulangerie Patisserie (France), Yakitori House (Japan), Sunshine Season Food Fair (The Land-may be closing)
MGM-Staring Rolls, Backlot Express

I made DH eat their twice in the last few weeks since it was open. I was SO excited:) Love their taco salad.

We love Pecos Bill in MK - they have a great fixins bar - they sautee mushrooms right in front of you along with other stuff to take and put on your burgers. The wraps are also good, very big! Also tried Columbia Harbor House last month for the first time -really good also!

We loved Pecos Bills in MK.. really great for the money.. even for Disney. I LOVE mushrooms and since i am the ONLY one in my family who does dont often justify buying them. MMMM mushroom burger.. mmmm fries with cheese sauce... mmmmmmm

We liked flame tree in AK.. let me rephrase that. My DH LOVED flametree. HE is a carnivore to the max.. and ribs and chicken are just his idea of food.

ANywhere else we have hit turkey legs stands or snacked around the world.

Tusker House at AK:

Rotis. chicken w. garlic mashed potatoes & veggies. Carrot cake for dessert.

DTD: Earl of Sandwich, yummy and great value; if you like coffee, their Kona is the BEST and they gave me a free refill.

I have to agree with you dis-happy...we just loved the EARL! In fact we went once during our short 5 day trip (I had the Cannonball sandwich, my friend had the famous Beef n' Bleu')and we returned on our last day before heading to the airport for another delicious lunch (couldn't get enough of a good thing! Infact, we ordered the same sandwiches!). Earl of Sandwich is quick, casual and inexpensive!
Check out the menu definitely a place I'll frequent again, while in Downtown Disney (Marketplace)..a great break from shopping your heart out! :cool1:

Here are some pictures!

Mmmm, you're making me hungry Pooh's Pal! We're making DTD our first stop next Friday, in order to get our AP passes ready to go. Will have to add in lunch the Earl as well. Thanks for the reminder!

My favorite is the Land's food court in Epcot--although I think it might be closed in preparation for Soarin'? I also agree with the members who posted china or japan pavilions--those are great, especially with a Kirin beer in Japan. In Epcot there are more places that I love than that I won't eat at...In Magic Kingdom--we always go to Cosmic Rays--I love their toppings bar. And, not as a meal, but you HAVE to stop at the Dole counter for a dole whip pineapple boat!
In Animal Kingdom we like the Flame Tree and the Pizza place
In MGM--I usually try not to eat in MGM--unless I get some fruit from the market...but we usually run in hit the rides we like and then go to Epcot for some food...

My favorite counter service meal is at Tusker House in Disney's Animal Kingdom--- love the rotisserie chicken with fresh mashed potatos and green beans, and the Balsalmic Chicken Salad--- the meal deal at DAK is a great idea too. (if anyone hasn't heard of it, you buy a voucher and it includes one counter service meal with drink, one bottled soda or water from an outside vendor, and either a ice cream bar or popcorn--- we usually get all of that anyway, and doing it with the voucher saves us about $3 per person.) We also like Pecos Bills for their excellent fixin's bar, and Columbia Harbour House for their sweet tea and outstanding chicken salad.

I've done the math..

The two best values on the plan also have some of the best food...

Tusker House
Flame Tree

I would add Tangerine Cafe as well but it seems to be on again off again with MYW Dining.

Enjoy!

My vote goes to Tusker House, located in AK. Love the chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans!

I love the mushrooms on the toppng bar at Cosmic Rays (MK) ... mmmm
