Where can I find help on this?

I have a problem with some Disney DVD's I just bought recently. In fact, I bought five and none of them work! It's not like I have a brand spankin' new DVD player, either, so I'm stumped. I reported a problem to Disney DVD's web site, and their response was a problem with my DVD player. However, I don't have problems with any of my other DVD's.

Where can I find help on this? Such as a community board where others have the same problems and tips?

Thanks!

I heard from our TDS that it IS something to do with the individual DVD player and it's inability to recognize something that is specific to Disney DVDs. The problem first surfaced with "Dinosaur", I think. I was told that you could return the problem DVDs and I *think* Buena Vista Entertainment had replacements ready. I'm a little fuzzy on the details as it's been quite some time, but maybe you could visit your local TDS, ask for a member of the mgmt team and hopefully they could help you. Good luck!

Thanks, Sorcerer. I've already replaced them once. The cast member suggested I try someone else's DVD player. I said, "Well, that won't do me much good!" I was a bit aggravated. I tried the DVD's in my computer, and they crashed my computer. Something is very wrong with them.

Someone else's DVD player? That's rich! I would definitely go back and ask for the store manager, and if he/she doesn't help I'd ask for the phone number to the District Manager. I'm certain that a solution is out there, I just can't remember what it is!

Dar 20-

You don't happen to have a Panasonic A310 do you? Samsung? If not, could you tell me the brand and model of your player? Also, the approximate age?

Specifically, which Disney discs won't play?

Also, could you describe the problem when you try to play the disc? Digital video? Audio breaking up, clipped etc.?

thanks

Dar,
We had a problem with DVD (Dinosaur) from Disney in our DVD player and it was a brand new player. Our problem was with the autostart. It would get through the very beginning and would start over instead of starting the movie. Selecting the menu feature to bypass this allowed the disc to be played. Don't know what kind of problem you are having, but I do know that some Disney DVDs are definitely more problematic than any other DVDs. If they don't fix their problems soon this may be a much bigger problem as they are getting a poor reputation about this and they don't want to lose the DVD revenue.

Thanks, Vince. The problem I'm having is that the DVD doesn't even recognize the disc in the player (it still says "no disc"). With Bedknobs & Broomsticks, we had to eject and put the disc back in the player at least a hundred times, and it finally recognized it. It would not recognize a couple others at all. With the Fox & the Hound, it finally recognized it, then tiled really bad. I've had problems with Disney DVD's before (Toy Story set), but usually just with really bad tiling.

How aggravating... Disney DVD sent me an e-mail telling me to take my DVD player in to be checked out. I know my DVD player works. All my other DVD's work with no problems at all. Although my DVD is a few years old, it is one of the better ones out there. I'm certainly not going to drop another $300 just to play a $20 low-tech DVD. No thanks!

Our player is a Go-Video DVR-5000 which is the new combination DVD and VCR. I have had great luck with just about every other DVD that I have had in there ( don't have a lot yet because I haven't had the new player long). The component video is probably one of the best overall pictures that I have ever seen. Suzi had a lot of these DVDs come back to her store for similar problems.

I've been talking with some folks who know a whole lot more about discs, machines and technology than me and I wanted to share what I learned with you:

I found out that Disney has been experiencing a lot of problems, especially with the new dual layered discs. But so has every other studio! Apparently, the Disney discs are NOT reproduced by Disney, but by people who reproduce discs!

But I found an interesting site I'd not seen:

the Disney Dvd site is-

www.disneydvd.com/support

I found it pretty interesting, check it out!

Vince- I don't think you have a BIG problem, just a matter of a quirk between your machine and that particular disc.

Dar20- Sorry, but the news for you is not so good. I was kinda right in the email I sent to you, but to get the entiire picture of your problem, check out-

www.hometheaterforum.com/bbs/archive/23342.html

I am also advised by my "expert" to...

"tell your friend not to spend anything on a repair, they usuall don't work!"

He should know, he's been through it with his A310!

I've learned a lot trying to find an answer to Dar20's original question. I have only had ONE problem with an LD disc, and have never had a problem with my DVD.

But after all is said and done, I'm willing to wrestle with the problems of new technology to get the astonishing results of a DVD player with a good sound system!

Dar20- I hope this helps...
