I bought some used bunk beds and they came with bunk bed mattresses. They are thinner than normal mattresses and a little too firm in my opinion. I am wondering where to buy the foam mattress toppers at a reasonable price, maybe 1-2 inches to give it a little more softness. Doing a search, I find prices close to $100. I can get a new mattress for $99, so I am hoping for something more in the less than $40 range. Anyone have any experience with this? Could be egg crate or just flat style.

Thanks~

I bought one at Kohl's with a 30% off coupon. It was right around $30 and a THICK one. They have thinner even cheaper. There is a 30% off code active right now if you google you'll find it. I think someone even posted it on here.
Here's one they have online- it's on sale and if you add on the 30% It's only about $30 for a twin

Thanks! I knew you guys would come through;)

My boys have the memory foam egg-crate style foam toppers on their twin beds. Got them at Target during the clearance of all the back to school supply items last year. (I think reg $20, on sale for $10.) Did have to cut them, as they were for the x-long twin beds.

Before that they had the regular foam egg-crate toppers from Walmart. I don't think they sell them on-line but they were about $12-$15. (Those got sent with the previous mattresses and bunk beds at a camp house. Hence why they were replaced, but still fine after 4 years of use by little boys.)

I've gotten egg crate foam toppers from Walmart and Family Dollar. I used egg crate foam on my bed in college, and now it travels with me to summer camp when I volunteer as a counselor! Those camp beds are NOT comfy!

Walmart and Target would be the best places locally. Overstock would probably be the best place to purchase online.

My daughter bought one from EBay for $15. It's an extra long twin for her dorm room. New, two or three inches thick. I thought she did well.

If it's for home use, go with something thicker than just an inch. You might want 3-4" thick. I use a thin egg crate for camping and such, but it wouldn't work for all the time. I've always slept with a topper of some sort.

I know around here, Goodwill receives a lot of damaged boxes from Target of new merchandise. It's usually 15-20% off retail price.

I've gotten a couple on Amazon much cheaper than the stores. I like the 3" memory foam toppers.

If you have Big Lots or Ocean State Job Lot or a similar sort of store in your area check there. I've seen the foam toppers at both of those stores for inexpensive prices.

Just be cautious and stick with a thinner topper. The reason they have those hard mattresses is probably because of the height restrictions on top bunks. Most bunk mattresses can't be more than @6 inches in height. The maximum height of the mattress should be listed on the warning label on the bunk.
