Where can I buy Disney dollars?

I've heard from some people that they're discontinued, other people say that they aren't so I don't even know. We wanted to give our 7 year old some spending money for our trip in less than two weeks. We wanted to do something fun and Disney themed since it's his first trip, so we didn't want to give him cash. We were going to give a gift card but we want him to be able to see the value of what money he has. Is there anywhere in the parks we can buy Disney dollars? I've heard from some places that the Disney hotels sell them but we aren't staying on site because we only live an hour away. We'll be going to Magic Kingdom first, so if anyone can tell me if and where I can buy them that would be great. TIA!

Unless something has changed recently, they can be purchased at Guest Services in the parks and at DTD.

I used to be able to buy them at our Disney Store at our local mall, but they were discontinued there a few years ago. I have a bunch that I use to reward my DD for extra chores and stuff. When it comes time for the trip, I exchange what she's collected for a gift card and put the Disney Dollars back in the drawer for future use.

If they are discontinued or you otherwise can't get your hands on them maybe you could make some fake Disney dollars that he can trade with you for real cash when he wants to make a purchase. That way he can still learn the value aspect and, if he loses them, it won't be an actual monetary loss.

I was told by a cast member at the disney store that they can be bought at the world of disney store.
