Where can I buy DDE at Disney World?

Hey there,

I read on allears that you have to allow weeks to get a DDE card in the mail but you can buy one at Disney World. We're going in 3 weeks so I want to get mine there - but where do you purchase one?

As long as you have the AP, no AP no DDE, unless you live in Florida.

Personally I don't think the DDE is a good deal any more because the automatically add on 18% gratuity. So your 20% discount is down to 2 and you have to pay for the card. If the card was free, I would renew mine, but it isn't. I guess you have to do the math. If you are going to end up saving in the long run, go for it.

I am not a cheap tipper either. I just think it stinks you pay for the card and then don't get as much off any more.

The pick up for the temporary card is at Epcot...at least it was last year.

I look at it as saving more now, because we always gave the 20% back as the tip, so I'm saving 2% more now. Unless the service is beyond amazing, I'm not giving more than they're automatically taking from me.

Don't quite understand this, but I've had a card for 3 years and just used it last month and they still gave me 20% off. Just because they now add the tip for you doesn't affect the value of the discount. Actually I use to tip 20% before the new rules, so does that mean last year I got no discount?? I guess if a person NEVER tipped before the new 2008 rules, then yes there is no value, but that's not us. So yes I would rather get 20% off of my bill, then tip 18% on my original bill because without the card I would get nothing off of my bill and still tip 18%. So I still get a 20% savings. We used it last month with the new rules and it didn't hurt one bit. (Actually we were pretty use to this procedure because this is the way they treat the CM dining discount too.....they too have the 18% added to their bills after receiving the 20% discount.)

This is a great value for us, as our 5 day trip last month paid for the cost of the card, so for our next 4 trips this year it is a real saver for us. The bottom line with the DDE card is how often you go and how many people are in your party. My card will be used for all of the trips in my signature below.

How would that be different than the old way of getting 20% off and adding that back as the tip? I agree with ChelleinNC that I'm getting 2% more back than I would have normally gotten. From what I'm reading, negating the 20%discount sounds like you're not counting back any tip at all.

I think the problem is that on a $100 total, people were tipping on the post-discount amount when figuring the tip. I'm not saying everyone does it, but I'd venture a guess that it happened often enough to make a difference. Here's why.

$100 original total bill: 20% = $20 tip
Tipping on the discounted/adjusted total of $80: 20% = $16 tip

Based on that, if people tipped 15% on the post-discount amount, it would amount to $12 or 12% of the original $100 total bill. I think putting 18% out there isn't unreasonable, considering I would have tipped 20% on the original bill. If the service tanked, I'd make sure I got the tip reduced due to poor service.

And don't forget that alcoholic beverages are included in the discount, too.

DDE cards can be purchased at Guest Services.

I don't get the logic here about tips. We always tip. Usually 20%. I think the card makes it very easy figuring-out tips. I guess if you don't have sitdown meals it's no bargain.

We just returned from an adult trip, saved $52 at Citricos, $47 at Chef de France, $42 at Spoodles, $20 in Mexico. All 4 places we would have tiped 20% per cent anyways. So to me we saved $161. Minus the original $60 for the purchase. $100 savings.

We will be returning in September w/5 adults and 3 grandchildren.

I think it $85 without an AP to Florida residence, with an AP it's $60 and it good for a year. I'm not sure but think you need to be a resident of Florida or have an AP.

If your traveling with a large group and eating meals together this card is great and it includes all beverages too.
