We did a cooking party for my daughter several years ago. I bought plain white aprons at Hobby Lobby. I also found cute chef's hats at Michaels. Kohls had some really cute aprons (since her birthday is around Valentines Day), but they were kinda pricey.

I second checking Hobby Lobby / Michael's Crafts for plain white aprons, and you can buy some fabric paint and customize them to your liking. Perhaps paint the child's name on each apron, or paint a giant cupcake on the front, or other designs, etc. I am not certain where to find a chef's hat, but I would probably check Hobby Lobby first if you have one.

chef hats out of posterboard and tissue paper. Then the kids got to decorate them with stickers and markers. (check familyfun.com)

We bought the plain aprons at JoAnn (with coupons) and the kids decorated them w/fabric markers

Making placemats and covering them w/contact paper is a fun activity at a cooking party too.
