Where Are Your Favorite Places To Dine, And To Snack At Dl. And At DCA?

Yummy! is the first word that comes to mind, for everyones posts.
May have to try the bacon wrapped asparagus thingy.

We used to really enjoy this diner in the DLH before they revamped the hotel back in the '90s. I cannot recall what the diner was named but they had really good food!

Anyway, we always end up at Goofy's Kitchen. Love the breakfast buffet and their bacon and pineapple are always really good, as are the potatoes, and my friends love the biscuits with gravy. Love the frozen mochas and pastries at Blue Ribbon Bakery. We always eat at Carnation for the meat loaf stack and the giant banana split. We like Wine Country Trattoria very much for their meatball sandwiches. We like Rain Forest Cafe for the big portions and the chicken fried chicken! We love Naples in DTD - their smallest pizza is big enough to feed two people or more and it is delicious. I like Bengal BBQ for the chicken skewers and I like River Belle Terrace for the pancakes and waffles. Used to eat at Plaza Inn and French Market a lot as a kid. Not so much now. Have not eaten at Blue Bayou in probably 30 years! I have only eaten at the steakhouse in DLH once, and I like Storytellers Cafe for the decor but I prefer Goofy's for buffet.

Carnation Cafe -- great food, great location, great prices!

Blue Bayou -- atmosphere is fantastic, good food!

White Water Snacks -- eating by the pool is so relaxing!

Location: 15 miles from Disneyland............How fortuitous for you! Great Dane, to live so close to DL! I would think that you have an annual pass, I know that I would if I lived so close to the park.

This is deviating slightly from the theme of this thread, but you reminded me, Gisele - I have a friend who lives about 5 minutes from the parks in Anaheim, and she does not have an AP. She hears the fireworks every night. One of my other friends remarked that if they lived as close as she does to DL and DCA, they would be there every weekend or at least twice a month. But my friend says she is not the type who is comfortable going there alone, no matter how close she lives, and she prefers going in with friends and staying in one of the hotels "because it makes it seem like more of a vacation" than if she just went home at the end of the night! Also, because of the mere fact that she does NOT go to Disneyland very often, she says that whenever she does enter the parks on one of our trips, it always feels like the first time all over again. You never lose that sense of excitement just stepping into Disneyland, wondering what treasures you will find or what fun is in store for you when you only go once or twice a year, or sometimes even less than that. But I think there is a fear that if my friend got an AP and went in anytime she wanted, it would lose some of its magic to be there. People are different. Some can go every single weekend for a year and some can do with just an occasional trip. But you never want it to get to the point where you start to think, "Ugh! Do we have to go back to Disneyland AGAIN?" And some folks do get like that, believe it or not!

To me, it seems that the beauty of the AP is that you can kind of break up your visits into themes. Like, one trip can be all shopping or browsing the shops. Another trip can be solely hunting for Hidden Mickeys and pressed penny machines. Another trip can be achieving a goal to just take a picture of the signs at every single attraction. Or an all-boat rides trip. Another trip can be all thrill rides. Another one, all Tomorrowland & Fantasyland, etc. There are endless ways to break up the trips with an AP that could make it new and special and fun each time. I would say an all-restaurants trip, but I don't know of anyone who could be that hungry or have that much money to spend on food throughout the day!

I can understand that, especially the part where one would not want to actually become burned out from visiting the parks. I know that when something becomes so familiar, that it can rather become old and rather boring.
Your friend should not be afraid to visit the park by herself, for I believe that she would be just fine.
I like the idea of theme visiting, it sounds like it could be fun. I agree about the idea of restaurant visiting, for unless one burns the calories of an athlete, your lunch may very well cover dinner as well.

So true! And I know my metabolism is not like that at all! Even though I do love the meat loaf stack at Carnation, if I eat that at noon or after, I will not be hungry for the rest of the day! When my friends and I were there last year, we had a big Goofy's Kitchen breakfast and my Anaheim pal and I were not hungry again the rest of the day, but my other friend was hungry two hours later and she probably ate more than we did at Goofy's! She was wondering why were not ready to eat lunch! I don't think I have it in me to make an all-restaurants trip. Just cannot do it! But I am used to doing things alone, sort of, so if I had an AP and lived as close as my friend does to the parks, I definitely think I could make an all-shopping trip myself, or an all-picture taking trip or something. When it came down to riding things and seeing shows or whatever, I like to do that stuff with other people!

My favorite place to eat is Orlean's Cafe. It has alot of the same food as BB, but a little less expensive. I loooove it there. Its just nice to see people going around and being able to see them excited about rides. Also you can see the pirate show if you sit outside and last but not least, it has DELICOUS food !


side note: I know I'm supposed to post about my favorite place to dine, but I also want to give people fair warning. When my fiancee proposed to me at Disneyland, he wanted to make sure everything was perfect; and it nearly was. Right before he proposed to me, we went to eat lunch at Tortilla Joe's. It tasted fine and we were having a great time. By the end of the day I felt sick and thought maybe I ate too much rich food. This was NOT the case. I was throwing up SOO bad that it felt like the replay of the Exorcist. I had such terrible food poisoning that we had to call the on site nurse at GCH. It was terrible. So fair warning everyone, Tortilla Joe's may or may not come with a sore throat and exhaustion from throwing up. He was so great and took care of me so well; talk about in sickness and in health.

Does anyone remember Space Mist? It was actually red Fanta punch sold at Tomorrowland Terrace as well as another little refreshment stand in TL. It was yummy and I had to have at least two cups of it on every trip as a kid! They stopped selling it in the early '90s, I think. Nectar of the gods!

Does anyone recall the name of the diner-type of restaurant that was in the OLD version of DLH, before they revamped it in the '90s? It was more like a coffee shop actually, not so much a diner. We ate there all the time, the last time being in 1995. Cannot remember what the name was to save my life! It was yummy! Great BBQ chicken sandwich. There was another restaurant called Mazie's in the old DLH as well, where we ate. And Goofy's was in a different location. There was a toy shop there, too, and a sports clothing store. Even though I like the current layout of the whole Disney resort, I miss the old shops and restaurants. I liked the old names of the DLH towers - the Marina, the Sierra and the Bonita, right? Weren't those the names?

I love the Fanta Strawberry soft drink, and the orange as well. Any tasty strawberry soft drink, that I have had so far, has been very tasty, too bad that Dl, no longer sells Fanta, I believe that it is an all Coke products park, that is too bad as well, for my most favorite soft drink is PEPSI!

Well, the Space Mist that I used to love in the '80s and early '90s was not strawberry soda. It was fruit punch. Just like Hawaiian Punch, but by Fanta. I think the reason I liked it was because it was called "Space Mist." If it had been sold simply as 'Fanta punch,' I would not have been interested in it! But I think I saw the Fanta logo on the machine that dispensed the Space Mist, and so that is how I knew what it really was. Otherwise, I would have convinced myself that it was some special magic liquid specially made by Disney! They sold it at two different locations in TL, and it was served in clear plastic cups for about $1.75 or $2.00.

Beverages seem to taste better at Disneyland when they have catcy little names or are served in nifty restaurants. The orange juice at Goofy's Kitchen used to be superb, and I was always convinced it was special Disney magic but I think it is from a carton!

The lemonade that used to be served at one of the stands on Tom Sawyer's island WAS outstanding in the late '80s and tasted like fresh squeezed, and my friends and I would go over to TSI JUST to drink that lemonade over the years. However, in the last decade, the lemonade has become decidedly watered down like some of the brands that are sold in the supermarket. In fact, I think that is what it is now - a brand from the supermarket.

Also, I love the Rain Forest Ricky (non-alcoholic) at Rain Forest Cafe. Super yummy blend of a bunch of different fruit juices. It is so refreshing if you are thirsty (which I frequently am at DL) AND you get a free RFC hurricane glass as a souvenir when you order it!

I guess no one remembers the name of the old coffee shop that was in the DLH pre-renovation, like up to about 1996 or so?
