When your parents shock you

OP, it is funny when it comes to our moms, what we think will send them off the radar usually doesn't! My mom can be this way as well. I wonder if, after reading this thread, I should ask my teens if I am guilty too!

As for the other, for once I agree with Carly Roach. My ethics and values are mine and noone else's. I wouldn't wait to tell I might not be coming back so that I can work with the temp and hopefully give her the knowledge this might be permanent. At the end of the day, if your position is being elminated anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to say hey, I don't have job on such such date anyway, so I might not come back from maternity leave. At this point it is up in the air depending on the situation with the company at that time.

I was out of work for 2 1/2 months for a knee surgery....right before I was due to go back to work a job that I had put in a resume to called me up and hired me- I didn't even go back to work for 2 weeks- I just called them up and said that I was not coming back because I had gotten another job offer- I never had an issue with future employers because I didn't go back and give 2 weeks notice to that other employer before leaving! Don't sweat it, it won't be an issue!
The company I work for now will not give a bad referance to ANY employer that calls for a referance for an employee that used to work there-to many lawsuits brought on by giving bad referances so they say its easier to just say "oh they were a fine employee" rather than say anything bad- even if they were a HORRIBLE employee!

It is an urban legend that there have been tons of lawsuits about references. The defense against slander is that you believe it to be true. So if an employee was suspected of stealing and that was what the employee was fired for, you can tell the new employer that. You can't tell the employer he was a convicted thief because that isn't true.

Many employers still with the basics because the references are done in a main office and the person doing the reference never even met the employee.
