OK, so its late, and dark, and DH is at a baseball game with his father and I'm home alone - kiddies are sleeping. I'm sitting here with the lap top on my lap watching TV with the lights turned on all over the house, but I can't help but still be freeked out a bit! I keep hearing cracking upstairs - at one point I was waiting for DD to come to the top of the stairs it sounded so much like someone walking around. This really only happens to me when I'm alone, so I figure its one of two things - either we have a ghost that likes to mess with me when I'm alone, or I just notice it more when I'm alone and the house is all quiet.
So my question is - what freeks you out when your home alone?? What do you "think" you hear, what do you "think" you see? Do you RUN from room to room like I do, JUST IN CASE?? Please tell me I'm not the only 27 year old BABY that still gets creeped out!

I don't get freaked out at all. the only thing that i do is close all the blinds and curtains. I hate standing up and seeing my reflection in the window and jumping or thinking i'm going to look out the window and see someone standing there.

I'm glad I'm not the only one ;) I get very freeked out when DH is traveling or is not at home when it's bed time  It's even worse when there is bad weather outside (pleeese, oh pleeese don't let the power go out!!).

Yes, I'm a big 35 year old baby too :)

Me too! Except I make the mistake of watching all those ghost story shows on TV while I am alone, then I am wide awake the rest of the night.

One night I was home alone, had watched a scary show and was in bed trying to go sleep. I heard a noise on my headboard (had a bookshelf type headboard) and looked up to see my clock radio "floating" across the top of my headboard. I was out of the bed SO FAST, and I nearly peed my pants. I ran out of the room as fast as I could move. Once I calmed down a bit, I went back into my room to examine my clock radio. Apparently a pillow fell off the side of the bed and landed on the electrical cord to my clock radio. The weight of the pillow on top of the cord was causing the clock radio to slide across the headboard until the pillow was resting on the ground. I felt so stupid once I saw what it was. Yep, I'm a 39 year old wimp!

Nothing freaks me out- the more alone quiet time I can get the better! But, I'm probably a weirdo- I also walk arund the house naked sometimes; and I really don't care if anyone sees me either.

I don't get freaked out unless my dogs start barking like crazy and run to the door, then i'm forced to get up and look and hope nothing is outside.

I don't get freaked out because we have a BRINKS alarm that I ALWAYS have on if DH is not home. All our downstairs windows & doors are wired & we have glass breakage devices. I know that NO ONE is getting in here.

If we didn't have the alarm system, then I wouldn't even stay home alone!!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:   I don't think I can compete with that.

One night I heard a loud crash. It woke my ds13 up too. My DD15 was still fast asleep. And she gets a kick out of this every time it is mentioned. DS and I were shaking so hard. I grabbed the phone and we tiptoed down the stairs yelling anyone there. Why we tiptoed? I don't know because we were yelling. We opened the basement door and yelled while blinking the lights. Still no answer. We KNEW we heard a loud crash but the alarm system did not go off. I sent my son back to bed and I sat at the top of the stairs trying not to fall over from hyperventilation. Then a lightbulb went off. I checked the hallway bathroom to see if the suction cup shelves fell off. Nothing. Then I checked my master bedroom shower and there it was. The entire shelf and contents were laying in the bottom. WHEEWWWWWWWW I still couldn't go asleep until my husband got home at 6am.

Oh yea......add another 29 year old baby here!! I dread dh having to travel anywhere, and he only has to do it a few times a year for a day or two. When he does I just can't sleep. Every little noise, every dog barking outside, ect...gets me all freaked out. I triple check all the locks before going to bed, let all my neighbors know I'll be home alone so they can watch out for me, and I have the kids sleep in bed with me so that I know they are safe. They think it's a fun sleep over....but really I'm just being paranoid!!

I cannot stand when my DH travels because I get no sleep. I actually kind of like some alone time until it is time for bed. Then, I am a mess! I sleep with the bathroom light on and at least one light on downstairs. I also make sure my cell phone is right next to my bed. Luckily, he doesn't travel much!!

..considering that grew up in a haunted house, I can very much sympathize!! I really did - it was freaky - I could tell some wicked stories that would make your hair stand on end!!! :scared1: Also, according to family stories My great Grandmother was a part of seances (sp?) and had some crazy stories... But I am 32 years old and proud to say I do believe in ghosts!! :worship: As a kid we took a family vacation to California. We visited the Sarah Winchester Mansion. Ever heard of it - super freaky! We dont have a thing on that girl - she as a bit freaked out to say the least!!!

And after a very uncomfortable experience with a neighbor this winter; when DH is not home, all doors are locked and blinds are pulled at dusk!! We have a small arsenal here and I am not afraid to use it! BUT all in all; its my imagination. And because our house was built by our own hands 4+ years ago; No ghosts here - or at least I dont get that feeling anyway...

BTW: its been so long since I ave been home alone with nothing to do at night, that I canteven tell you what I was doing or what i would do. I can only guess that it might consist of laundry, dishes, watching HGTV or WHATVER I WANTED and 99% sure i would include surfing The DIsney Boards - as I am a self-proclaimed Dis-Addict of course! :)

I HATE being in the house alone overnight (and I have 3 kids and a labrador retreiver, so "alone" is relative.)

When my husband chaperoned the Senior trip to Disney in the spring, here's what I did: I told the kids we were "camping in" in the living room.

Two of them got the sofabed each night, and the third got to sleep with mommy!!!

(At least they weren't all the way upstairs.)

Then I kept the TV on mute all night so there would be a little light in my room, and somehow managed to sleep!

I used to hate it when dh had to travel for work and I was home alone with the kids. Now, he works 3rd shift and I have had no choice but to get used to it. He's been on 3rd for over a year now and I'm better. We have an alarm system, so that really helps my peace of mind. The only thing that really freaks me out is if our dog gets to barking and won't stop in the middle of the night. I know it is just that she sees a squirrel or something, but it still worries me. Also, she will sometimes jump up on the window-seal chasing bugs and it sounds like someone scratching on the door- really gets me every time. Other than that, I'm ok usually. Really bad weather scares me some- like tornadoes. There are nights that I just can not go to sleep and that isn't fun. We recently changed to digital phones and have discovered that they don't work with the alarm system (they promised it would) so we are waiting for them to switch it back to the old phone company. In the meantime, the kids have been sleeping with me.
Just please don't let the dog see a squirrel or rabbit!!!:lmao:

My DH travel also so it can be anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks that the kids and I are by ourselves. I have to admit it did used to freak me out but now I am kinda used to it. Once the kids are down for the night I usaully try to busy myself with folding laundry or working on the computer till I am totally exhausted that I crash when I hit the couch or bed.

BUT ..... the one thing I will NOT DO when home alone is go in the BASEMENT !! IDK why but just cant do it. I tried it one time and got to the laundry room and had to bolt back up the stairs.

I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one that does that to themselves. I love watching Ghost Hunters and any other ghost shows. It's not only ghosts shows that freak me out to watch at home alone, but shows about aliens and big foots do it to me as well.

One night not long after we moved into our current house my DH spent the night at his parents house. He had gone over to help them with a computer problem and it had taken too long to fix. Instead of coming home in the middle of the night, and so tired he shouldn't have been driving, he stayed. Of course it had to be on a night that I had been watching shows on ghosts all night. My DS's were already in bed, and the door to my bedroom was pulled to, but not shut totally. All of a sudden the door shut, and I jumped. I went to the closet and pulled out a sword that we bought at a renaissance festival and walked through the entire house. He ended up spending the next night b/c he was building them a new computer, and the same thing with the door shutting happened again. I called my DH and told him his parents would just have to be without a computer b/c we had a ghost that was freaking me out. He asked me what had happened, and he said he was not coming home just b/c the AC was shutting our bedroom door when I hadn't shut it all the way. I thought he just didn't want to come home, but I tried just brining the door to and not shutting it, as soon as the AC kicked on it shut.

That time I just had a sword, when I was at home alone when I was almost 18 I had a loaded gun. Growing up we lived in the country, and our house was surrounded by lots of trees. I don't remember why, but I was at home alone. I was watching some type of paranormal show when I started hearing a scratching at the door. It wasn't unusual to hear things outside, hearing a car pull up on the gravel and no one be there or hearing someone open the gate to our yard and no one being there. After several hours of hearing the scratching I started getting scared. My dad is an avid gun collector, so I went and loaded one of his hand guns. I don't know what kind it was, I just know he calls it his "Dirty Harry" gun. I sat on the floor of the living room, with my back against the couch facing the door. After 2 hours the door opened and there stood my 6'3" tall Dad. Of course he was wondering why his 18yr old daughter had a gun pointed at him. I explained about hearing the scratching. He said that if I had just let our cocker spaniel named Lady (yes, she was named after the Disney movie) in the house, I wouldn't have had to sit pointing gun at the door for 2 hours.:lmao: Even though the gun was loaded, the safety was on and I was clueless at the time on how to take it off. Needless to say after that, I had some Dad taught gun classes.

I have 3 kids and a 2 lb chichuhua (sp?). WE do the same as you. :lmao:

My older kids know I am being paranoid but the 3 year old thinks we are having fun.

I never, never take a shower when home alone. In the movies, you always get in the shower...:happytv:

Love, Love, love it when I am home alone! Let the party begin, :drinking1 No cooking, unlimited shopping, stay up late reading. I don't even close all the blinds.

My Dh works rotating shift, which means nights every other week. My DD got a new baby doll for about her 4th b-day. In the middle of the night I hear something so I call DH (I always do this if I freaked out when he's not home). I then walk toward the sound and it is the baby doll talking -okay maybe something was on the button you push to make her talk. Moved the doll and went back to bed. As soon as I fell asleep again (that took a while) she started talking again -- I tossed her out the back door. Returned it to the store the next day.

Another story: once, when I was still living home with my parents, I was going to be the only one home for a week. (And I'm one of 5, so you can imagine how rare this was!!)

I went out and bought myself some treats-- expensive shampoo and conditioner, stuff like that.

I came home from my waitressing job to find that the shampoo and conditioner were GONE. They didn't drop, I hadn't misplaced them, they just were NOT in the house that I had to myself for the week.

I called my friend and spent the rest of the week with her.

Turns out that my older sister had forgotten that everyone but me was away, stopped by, and taken my stuff home to "try", intending to return it by the end of the week.
