does he/she do anything to re-acclimate him/herself to your house???/

I thought of this because I just heard a noise - and realized my dog is snoring so loudly it is echoing through the hall!!! She always sleeps very soundly for the first few days she's home. Also, she must immediately drink a few sips of water and then go out in the backyard and...ah...investigate. She investigates three or four times before she comes back in - I don't know whether she's been crossing her legs all week or whether she's markig her territory again.

She also had a bath and apparently decided it was time to shed her undercoat, finally. Dog hair tumbleweeds have been blowing through Dodge (ie my house) all week. I finally brushed her for the last time today and I think we've gotten most of it!!!

Does your dog have any peculiar or interesting "re-entry" routines???

Not my current dog, but my previous cocker would always be so mad at me for leaving him. When I picked him up he would get in the backseat and get as far away from me as possible. I had a convertible and he would go and get back in the "well" for the top. By the time we got home he'd forgiven me.

Our cocket spaniel did the same thing, we would call her to come to us and she would snub us. After a few hours we were forgiven and then she would follow me everywhere, even into the bathroom!

Our dog would ignore us when we went to pick him up at the kennel. He would not come to us when we called him for a few days. The longer we left him the longer we got the cold shoulder treatment. His attitude was "You talking to me?" "What, you want me know?" "I will let you know when I am no longer mad at you"

Haha!! Mine is so eager to leave that I've had to ask them not to bring her out until I've paid the bill. When she comes through that door she heads straight for the exit - no hanging around!!!!

A funny story - when I dropped her off I said, "Now, I hope you girls (my dog and two cats) will have fun at Camp (name of vet). I know you'll enjoy making s'mores and singing Kumbaya, won't you?" One of the older vet techs, who's my favorite, just smiled and said, very quietly, "Pass it on!" I died laughing - that song was such a classic part of all my summer camps!!!

It only takes a spark to get a fire going....

I used to joke about taking my dog to "puppy prison". I just go so used to saying that even though I only left my dog at these really expensive high end pampering places with indoor/outdoor suites.

One of my neighbors called me one day and told me that her six year old daughter (who loved to hang around my house) was crying that night because Sundance was going to have to go to "puppy prison."

My pets board at the vet, and even though I know in my heart of hearts that they are probably in cages a good bit of the time, I always visualize the meadow from The Sound of Music on the other side of that door, with the dog running free and maybe the cats helping Julie Andrews sing a chorus or two of "The Hills Are Alive." It makes me feel better if I lie to myself a little....

current dog about a month before our last trip. He needed to be neutered so we decided to have it done while we were gone since he was being boarded at the vet.

He's about a year old and was house trained as soon as we got him from the animal shelter. No accidents or anything.

For 3 days after we got home from our trip he "accidented" all over the house. DH was ready to ship him off. I took him back to the vet to make sure he was ok and didn't have an infection or anything. I told DH that it was from being boarded and would go away. I left the part out about "revenge" from being neutered and prayed he had a short attention span.

Luckily he got over it quickly. He is the best and funniest dog we have had. DH loves him and he is NOT an animal person.

Our dogs love, love, love camp. If I just say the word *camp* they go ballistic. If they see suitcases, they go nuts. The ride there is only 10 minutes, but its a crazy 10 minutes. My one dog is crying so hard, I know he wishes he could talk. I can't get the car door open before they come barreling out of the car, they run straight for the door, and tear through the inside. They can't wait to get in their cage. Its goofy, they act totally dorky and they act the same way in reverse when its time to go home. They tear through the place trying to get out the door. Its a quiet time at home for at least a day as they sleep it off. There is nothing special about the place, in fact, the ladies that own the place are heavy smokers, but my dogs don't care about there. They must love the freedom to bark without getting told to keep quiet. :confused3

I have a beagle and if I leave her for a good amount of time, she is very mad and gets me back by peeing in the bed as soon as we walk into the house...and its not because she has to go or anything since she has just come in from the outside... she just has to get back at me for leaving her, and then she is ok and will not pee on the bed until the next trip.

My puppies are there right now!!! We are heading out this morning for family 4th of July vacation!

When I dropped them off yesterday they actually were wagging their tails at the guy.
When we get them home they go to the bathroom, drink water like they have had none, and sleep.
My dog Butters who likes his sleep is like ahhhh...peace and quiet.

My German Shepherd (passed away) used to run around the perimeter of the yard over and over again. It was hysterical to watch :rotfl: . Then he would come in and sleep like he was in a coma for hours.

OUr dog Shadow makes us feel so bad when we leave him. ONce I was in the car and my son and husband were inside getting him checked in . He is a 109lb Shepard/Lab mix. I look in the window and see Shadow STANDING next to my son on his hind legs with his paw resting on my son's shoulder trying to blend in and act like he was just one of the "humans" it was hysterical. He has actually ripped his leash trying to get back to us when we pick him up. He is very happy to see us!! We leave him in one of those doggie"Inn's" with all the amenities too. Shadow is a family dog in every sense of the word. When he is at the INN he will try to sit in the lap of whomeever is watching the dogs play!! LOL

Our husky just passed away 3 weeks ago we miss him so much. We always boarded him at our vets. When we would pick him up he wouldn't look at us. On the ride home he'd keep looking away, as soon as he got out of the car he went right to the gate. Went in the yard ran around and found all the toys he'd hidden in various spots throughout the yard. Gather them up, put them in a pile then lay there with them for a couple hours. After a couple hours he'd finally forgive us. Same routine for 12 years.

Our boys were boarded for the first time earlier this month, for 9 days. We've always been able to find a relative to check in on our guys for a day trip, but this was a week's vacation at WDW.

They were happy to go for a ride. They didn't have a problem going with the kennel owner to the yard. When we picked them up, the 7yo lab was eager to get in his Halti. He knows it means he's going for a W-A-L-K. Once Whiskey was hooked up she tried to leash Diesel, the 1 yo lab. He dislikes putting the Halti on, and to make matters worse Whiskey kept trying to put it on...even though he was already in his and ready to go.

They were fine on the ride home, nothing too out of the ordinary at home, but for the past two weeks the 1 yo is not eating like he used to and the older one doesn't have as big of a bark as when he left. He actually squeaks when he barks. He must have been barking the entire time he was at the kennel.

As for the younger one's eating habits, we're not sure. He used to eat so fast and as much as he could (we limit how much is in his bowl but he'd eat Whiskey's leftovers). He barely eats one bowl a day since he's back. We're not sure if the weather's affecting him or if he's just matured enough to eat less and more slowly.

We've only left Dash twice now, once for a weekend and the beginning of this month for about 12 days. The weekend visit was fine, we never noticed any changes other than him being sooooo very excited to see us and be back home.

After the longer visit it took him a good 3 days to spend more than 5 minutes awake, he was so wore out. His bark was also pretty weak, almost scratchy... he must have barked a lot while we were gone.

I do know he likes it there though, when they bring him out from his area he doesn't always see us right away and it's interesting to watch him walking around and following the workers there. Once he sees us though it's all over and he comes running!

We are dropping him off again tomorrow for about 12 to 13 days :guilty: so we will see if he acts the same this next time when we pick him up.

we have to take a towel with us when we pick her up because she will "doodie" in the car.
A bath is first thing when we get home because she leaves there stinking.
