Coming home from school to have lunch? I can remember doing that, only a few kids stayed for lunch as they lived far away. I also remember that the girls had to wait on one side of the school yard and the boys on the other side. I also remember when you had to where a dress to school. No pants where aloud. Wow have time's ever changed! Was just wondering if any of you remember the good ole days!

I remeber going home for lunch, the grade school was a block from my house..

of course that was a bad thing when I started kindergarten, I would ask to go to the bathroom , and then walk home, my mom had to keep taking me back..LOL

I used to come home for lunch every day untill I had to be bussed to school for grade 4 and 5 than again in HS.

speaking of the dress code, I remember when jeans and sneakers were forbiden at our school.. I remember the name of the family that fought to change that

The state provided us with lunch in school

Yes, I remember walking home for lunch. And we couldn't wear pants to school until I was in 7th grade....and that was in Illinois in the era of mini-skirts...no wonder we wore those long knee socks! BRRRR! It seems so silly to ban pants, but let girls wear short short skirts.

it seems like a good idea to me...for everyone including adult women....except for my wife and daughters....LOL

I also walked home for lunch until 7th grade. The Jr Hs was too far, I was bussed for the 1st time. Couldn't wear pants, but I remember putting them on under my dresses in the winter and having to get to the bathroom to take them off before class started.

our school always fed us lunch or we could bring a sack lunch. We could wear jeans or dresses until i was a 9th grader then they passed that we could wear shorts as long as they were past our fingers if our arms were down at our side.

LOL! They have the same rule for shorts (the "finger tip rule") in our district. That rule has really made me notice people's arm length. My arms are quite long, so my shorts would have to be almost to my knees. But some people's fingertips only come down to their crotch area...so I guess they don't need any legs to their shorts at all!

We use to come home for lunch when I was in grade school too. We also had to wear dresses until I was in 7th grade and then you could wear pants and jeans. We couldn't wear shorts until I was in high school. I was in grade school in the 60's and early 70's.

All through grade school, my mom would take me in the morning, pick me up at lunch, make me lunch, take me back after lunch, and pick me up after school. We lived about 10 blocks from school. Around 4th or 5th grade I started walking home after school, but mom still did all the rest. Such was the existence of a SAHM in the 60s.

I wasn't allowed to wear pants until high school. But, we always had lunch at school.

How about prayer in school? Until 4th grade we said the Lord's Prayer and had Bible reading every morning with the Pledge of Allegiance. And this was public school.

I was a latch key kid before it was "the thing". My mother worked full time as an RN, so no one was at home for lunch. I usually bought my lunch. In 3rd grade it was 25 cents. (Talk about showing your age ;) )

We were required to wear dresses. It was really cute to see all of those little girls on the monkey bars at recess

Yep. I also remember the winter snow storm of 67 in Northwest Indiana. Snowpants and dresses make a rotten combination .

We went home for lunch in grade school. I couldn't wear pants until I started college.

Wow...again, they didn't care what we wore in school as long as it wasn't see through or have offensive words on it! It's amazing how times have changed.

I said that to a friend the other day when we noticed a girl, all of 14 or 15 years old, wearing shorts so short her butt was hanging out of them, and a shirt so low and tight you could see her breasts. Her parents didn't seem to care.

I used to go home for lunch once in a while - not everyday. Today, the same school doesn't allow this anymore, and I think that is kinda sad. Not sad that the school won't do it, but sad because society today has made the school feel that it is unsafe to allow the children to walk home for lunch. Oh well, I guess it's the world we live in now.

I am in the same boat as many of you. Coundn't wear pants until high school. Could wear pants in Jr. high ONLY on rainy, cold days. I remember waiting so patiently to be able to wear nylons and high heels in Jr. high and by the time I got there, low rise jeans were all the rave:rolleyes: Of course! We always ate at school though, both my parents worked full time.

Yes, in elementary school I would walk home for lunch most days, not all. I look back on that now and can't believe that there was actually a time when that was safe. I definitely could not let my children do that now-a-days! It's a sad comment on our world and times.
