When you say a meal at a restaurant is expensive, what do you mean?

OK, we are back and I had the fried Walleye. It was good. Total bill for the 4 of us was 95 with tip. Not bad.:thumbsup2

All the mom's got a slice a free cheesecake which was very good.

I feel satisfied that what we paid was in line with the quality and service. Server forgot my veggies and however dh felt justified not speaking up as we got free cheesecake.

I just got back from taking my son and mother out for mother's day. We had two glasses of wine, appetizers to share and a dessert to share, plus entrees. My son had a kids' entree. The total bill with tax and tip was $175.

I thought it was a reasonable price to pay given that it was a special occasion, the restaurant and service were lovely, and we had special ingredients like baby octopus, and lobster, however it was definitely an expensive night out in my mind. Not something we'd do on a regular basis.

....

For example, some folks idea of an expensive meal is Olive Garden. Others idea might be V&A. I know when we go out it's usually around $100 average. My neighbors balk at spending anything more than $30. You can get some great meals for $30 and you can get some really cruddy ones for over $100. It all depends on what you're comfortable spending.

With me it is P.F. Chang's. I enjoy OG, and the price is fine... But P.F. Chang's is a place that I don't " get". Too $$$, not that good, and IMO, smaller portions than most chains.

I think of an expensive meal as one where the entrees are about $35 or more and everything is ala carte. Being in Central IL, we don't have a lot of thos, but we have quite a few just shy of that, and they are worth every penny for an occasional date night for dh and I. If I pay that, I expect the service to be on par, too. we usually get a drink or two, and apppetizer, entrees, and share a dessert. It's about $175, but we only go out to eat liek that a few times a year.

There is a place we like in Alaska, where the average entree runs about 60-80 bucks a person. Very well worth the cost and the drive to the small town it's in. Generally we're used to spending about 80-100 whenever we go out to a non chain place in our area, more if we're going for sushi or something along those lines. We don't eat at chains very often, just because we like supporting small businesses :)

Okay, I am frequently in St. Louis, and drive across Illinois to Evanston Indiana. I'm calling your bluff. $23 a person for fried Walleye?????? Seems there are signs every 2 miles along the I-64 across Missouri and Illinois.."Fried Walleye, all you can eat, $10.99".
