that was "our song" with an old flame, do you change it as fast as you can or smile fondly?? I guess it would depend on the sort of break up and how long ago.

Years ago, I would turn it right off. Now, I smile and think about the good time we had. I even have my wedding song with my ex DH on my iPod. My DH didn't like it so much at first, but he's grown accustomed to the idea that we all learn and grow from our past and thinking about it doesn't mean you wish it was back.
(singing to Neil Young..."On that harvest moon...")
I dont have any that I change right away.. some songs I just like...so I listen to them, some just have me reminsicing on the good times as opposed to the bad.
That said..I've never had a 'horrible' break up..
I have a couple "our songs", was engaged twice pre-DH. One I smile fondly (and yes, I broke up with him), the other I change the channel (he broke my heart terribly and I hate the song, hate thoughts of him still too, even though it was ... um ...wow, 22 years ago!). I'm past it definitely, but he was such a mean jerk that I still wish him ill. With him I truly wish "what goes around, comes around"!
I had one song that my first and second boyfriends liked and sang to me when they were leaving for basic training. I never told the second about the first boyfriend singing that song to me too.

I was doing some searching and there were two songs they both sang to me. Yeah, it was weird, but their personalities were nothing like, it didn't feel weird at the time.
I've been married 25 years to my current husband but I still smile fondly when I hear "our song" that was associated with my first husband. I never harbored bad feelings; life is too short.
All my songs about my ex were unhappy ones, so I don't have a problem with them. But there's this one song I associate with this really nice guy, who was absolutely perfect, and was totally into me...and then we kissed...and I realized we had absolutely no chemistry whatsoever...and to this day I feel bad for 'leading him on'....yeah, that one I can't listen to.
