And you have your bathingsuit on, do you wear something to cover your belly/hips? Some people have bathingsuits with the little skirts, some people put shorts on.
I am not a small person and I do have a bit of a belly , but I am not as bad compared to a lot of people, and I refuse to wear something else than my bathingsuit. This is who I am , and I'm not there to impress anyone, I am comfortable and I feel that if people don't like it , that's their problem.
I'm asking this because just yesterday my friend ( who is twice my size almost ) just happened to ask me if I ever go to the pool with shorts on, when I said no and she should know better, we take the kids to the local waterpark often in the summer because we both have season passes, she was shocked.
But what really gets me though is how she can "see" what other people look like and how "big" they are, and she doesn't "see herself".
So, am I weird because I don't cover my hips and belly? My outlook has always been, this is who I am, take it or leave it.

You go girl!! What is most important is self esteem--no matter what your size! If you feel good with what you are wearing, wear it, don't let anybody bring you down!!
I have a similar problem with my BF, only she has a terrific body. When I talk about struggling with my weight loss, she chimes in with how hard it has been for her to lose this 8 pounds or so. I want to scream sometimes! I understand that she has her issues with weight, but is comes as no consolation for me. My DH says, "wait until you reach your goal, and you are a threat to her...you have to be careful around her..." It's unbelievable what our so-called "friends" do to us when we become a threat to them, and they don't even realize it. You keep going on with what makes you happy...

If you are comfortable with what you are wearing there is no need to cover anything up. Like the previous poster said, the most important thing is self esteem. Good for you for having confidence & feeling good about yourself.

I have a chubby belly & legs but I wear just a bathing suit, too.:D

I think that is a wonderful attitude to have. I wish I had it too.

My bathing suit has a little skirt thing on the bottom. I don't like wearing a bathing suit in public, I am just so self conscious that I cannot even be comfortable.

Well, I weigh 213 pounds- my thighs have wrinkly extra skin and jiggle like 3 day old jello. I have a very modest Speedo bathing suit with no skirt. I wear shorts to the pool then I must look like Wonderwoman changing out of them and sprinting with my jiggly legs following me right into the freezing pool. I do not get out of the pool until I'm ready to put those shorts back on and go home- I will not freely walk around the pool but I don't cover up while in the pool- my waist and up look nicely proportioned for my height but my bottom and thighs look way gross unless I stand just right and strike a pose- which you can't do while walking. But by golly when I get down to 150 and my legs are even more jiggly because of the excess skin- I will parade SLOWLY down to the pool maybe even saunter and enjoy every second (about 3 of them) until I can hide my legs! :) I wish I had you to go with the pool with you'd give me confidence and "WHO CARES!" attitude!

The last time I weighed myself I was at 145 - this was a few weeks ago.

I have 4 bathing suits - 2 black identical w/a slip over it
1 one-piece that I just wore yesterday. I did wear blue fishnet shorts over them. Gave me a little coverage but could still see through.
I also just recently bought my first tankini. Will wear the blue fishnet shorts w/them too.

Chiming in at 199.5 pounds..... No shorts for me!! No sir, no way. I am too hot at the pool anyway so why would I want to wear shorts? I sit in the lounge chairs and get into the water without my shorts. I do put on my shorts when I leave though. ;)

And Tara? Ahahahahhahaa!! I love your post!!! Will you come swim with me?? We can jiggle as we walk together to the water. You have a wonderful sense of humor! :)

When I was 23 years old and weighed 108, I wore a cover up over my suit. If I went to water ski, or to a pool, I took it off but put it back on again when I got out of the water.

Same thing now, except now I don't weigh 108.

In public, definitely a coverup.

In my own pool, you get an eyeful of whatever I'm in the mood to wear. Tummy, ugly thighs and all! :p

Is that a THONG I see?!?!?!??!?!?!

Okay...there are two different public pool scenerios...the first you are at a public pool near where you live with neighbors..etc. I can see wanting to be a little more covered in this case. But NOT so covered that you cant enjoy yourself. I will show up in a coverup and usually wear a towel until I am ready to put my coverup back on. I don't need my flab being on the agenda of the next PTA meeting.(if ya know what I mean...LOL)

Scene #2....You are at a public pool on vacation lets say WDW...Girlfriend.....you are on vacation and do not know any of these people...WHO CARES!!! This is the time to do what YOU want and be confident!! YOU are NEVER gonna see any of these people again and you are paying GOOD $$$ to be on vacation...I would not let anyone stop me from flaunting it!!!! Geesh!!! I even go down the waterslides at the hotels. Something I would never do at home.

Whatever you do...just remember to be Confident, because nothing looks better!!
