WHen you bought for the first time did you go resale or DVC???

our history is as follows:

Resale 3/'99
Resale 7/'99
Resale 9/'99
Sold one 4/'00
Resale 5/'00
Resale 7/'00
Sold one 4/'01
Sold one 6/'01

The resales always seemed to be priced lower, and we bought with at least two year's points available (banked), with a new year's allotment usually less than 6-8 months away. These deals are fewer and farther between, but should still be available if you are patient.

We bought resale both times. It was much easier to get my dh to go with $62 pp instead of $80 pp. We got more points than we would have thru Disney and the maintenance fees at OKW are the cheapest of the properties.
I had wanted BCV in the beginning but now that I have heard so many good things about OKW--not to mention the point requirement is lower there so we can get more nights from our points.
Our closing costs for the 2 were $400 the first contract and $375 for the second--still we saved about $15 pp (just like mb ).

4greatboys- do you mind if I ask how many points you bought with each contract? That way I'd at least have a n idea of what closing cost would be for each amount of points. THANKS

We bought our first contract resale 232 points at OKW. Closing costs were about $2 per point. I would agree with 4great boys that it was much easier to convince dh with the resale prices. Actually I might not have been able to covince him otherwise. We did add on 70 points at BCV a couple months after we closed. We had a good experience with resale. We got two years worth of points. It was very hard to wait for closing. It took about 7 weeks. Good luck with your purchase.

We went through Disney both times. Financed our original purchase (but paid it off way early), and then paid cash for our add on.

Our first resale was actually 2 small ones together sold by same seller. They were 50 pts and 65 for a total of 115--we paid $400
closing for both together.
Our second that we are now closing on was 100 pts for a closing cost of $379.

The thing I like about the smaller contracts is if you need to sell just one or all I see the small ones are snapped right up whereas the larger ones 200, 250, 300 etc sometimes seems to remain on the market longer.

Our (my) plan was to get a small resale and then add on with BCV points but then we found our 2nd resale and for $62 pp I just couldnt pass it up.

Although I would love now to have some VWL points we will have to see what come up. We currently have 215 points but for a large family that is not really very many points unless you want to give up weekends and with kids in school I cant do that.

We bought resale becasue we stayed at OKW and we loved it. The added bouns was we saved money! Then we bought BCV via Disney, coz we loved that too.... And finally ended with a resale at BWV, coz...... can you guess........ we loved that too!

Hubby is greatful that I didnt fall in love with WVL when we toured there over Christmas...... LOL

I beleive in buying where you want to stay most..... For us that means OKW. And that was only availible via resale.
