When would you go?

DBF and I are looking at planning a trip for 2016, but we aren't quite sure when to go. This will be my third trip and his first. It will likely be our only kids free trip. We are from the west coast and disneyland regulars. A bit more about our hopes for the trip:

- lower crowds (I know we won't have walk on lines, but we don't want to be there at spring break either)
- cooler weather. We don't care about the pools or waterparks. We want to be able to see the parks without melting.
- work schedules are flexible. The soonest we could go is March. We can't go between June-August, but everything else is flexible
- we won't have many ADRs, so I'm not worried about it being 180 days away
- were having trouble being patient. Part of me would love to just go in May. I know January may be a good fit for us, but I don't want to wait that long!
-Christmas decorations would be nice, but not necessary. As would any newly opening attractions/shows.

The best time for lower crowds and cooler weather is January or February.

May won't get you cooler weather...

I would suggest 1st or 2nd week of December or January/February based on your wants.

The soonest you can go is March, but you don't want Spring Break crowds, and you don't want heat and humidity.

I'm afraid that November is the earliest time which will meet all of those criteria (but not Thanksgiving week, of course). From our experience, November and March are the two ideal-weather months in Orlando.

With Easter in March this year, April would be a possibility. It will be hot and humid by then but it won't be summer-melting-hot. There will be some Spring Break traffic, but less than what March will have.

Later April is our very favorite time of the year to go. The weather isn't cool but it isn't usually hot or humid yet. It's not particularly rainy, either. Crowds are not bad and the winter refurbs are finished, usually. Plus, the Flower and Garden festival is on and the gardens all look fabulous.

You can get some cooler weather in Nov and Dec, but you need to be very careful choosing your week, to avoid Thanksgiving, Jersey Week, and Christmas ( and Pop Warner, unless you can find which resorts they aren't at) crowds.

The new stuff such as Soarin' and Rivers of Light won't open until spring/ summer so I would recommend going after that and would suggest the beginning of Dec to experience all of the holiday stuff.

With Easter being when it is, would early March possibly work?

I'd go early November. Christmas decorations. Weather is nice. Crowds are reasonable. Plenty of time to get ADRs you want.
If you're getting antsy though may is nice. It's hot and a little more crowded but I still love it.
