When would you go?

When we went to DL in March, DD(10) decided she wanted to make a trip with just the 2 of us. I thought that sounded like a lot of fun. We decided that the reason would be a special trip since she is graduating from elementary school next year. We just needed a reason so the other 2 kids would understand why they're not coming. They'll get their turn eventually.

She doesn't like to miss school and DH will need to watch the other 2 so mid-week is not an option. I was thinking of a Thursday-Sunday, doing a 3 day hopper. In a perfect world, the weather won't be too hot nor too cold, crowds not too bad, and we'll be able to see fireworks, Fantasmic, etc. What do you think the best time is for us to go? I'd like it to be in the latter part of next school year.

Thanks for your help.

When does she get out of school? My DS always finishes school the Fri. b4 Mem. Day. If you could get there the 1st week of June I think that'd be great, but you said your DH would be with the little one's so week days won't work ~ I don't do weekends so I can't offer guidance there.

You could always plan it around a school vacation (I know around here you can't go too long without a 3-4 day weekend).

Maybe go in April or May...sure she'll still be in school, but you can go for the occasion while the crowds are at lower levels. That way you can get more done in a smaller amount of time.

Either way, that will be a fun trip!

My kids dont get out of school till the 2nd week of June, so I would maybe do the first week of June as well. If she gets out eariler, maybe mid-May. I really dont think you could go wrong with doing a late April-early June trip. I have been trying to think of a way to escape with just one child. I would love to be able to take my 4 year old now, he is graduating pre-school next week. Maybe I can make just a quick 1-2 day trip, hmmm.....:rolleyes1

Spring break is crazy, but maybe you have a teacher inservice day or something in late April or May? If it's a Monday, you could do Sat-Tues and just pull her out for one day-- a lesser evil, yet you still get a couple of weekdays and come back late Tues.

I'm doing this with DD13 in Oct. On our first trip to DL in March she was very sick. So, this is her "re-do" and mom/daughter bonding time. Really looking forward to it! She is old enough that we will enjoy doing all the "big kid" rides together, and no worrying about the youngest keeping up. Surprisingly, the DDs 6 and 10 are cool with it-- they felt bad for her missing so much the first time around.

I'm Ok with her missing a couple of days of school. We went during spring break this year and it was soooo crowded. Easter is April 12 so maybe schools will have later spring breaks. How bad will the crowds be at the beginning of March?

Have fun with your DD. I'm looking forward to it too. She loves the big rides and doesn't require frequent rests and snacks. Of course we'll take them, but she won't melt like DS would.
