When worlds collide~the original flats meet in 4D!!

Cherie,

What a lovely lovely memory! I got teary reading that. I need to make my grandma's black forest cookies this weekend, I don't know that anyone really likes them but me but they remind me of her like nothing else.

Thank you for making me think of that.

I am so glad that you had that much needed moment
I'm glad it made you think of your grandma. I was so blessed to have 3 grandmas.
the chocolates certainly aren't the best, but for some reason we all love them.

She had had the shingles a few years back which left some permanent nerve damage in her legs. But more than that, she was just tired and frustrated and angry at my grandfather who didn't treat her very well. The whole situation (it's ongoing with GPa)makes me so sad!

Anyway, they are tokens of love! thanks for that reminder.
caring for family as they get older can be so hard. I was able to help my grandparents who lived near me. It was painfull to watch their health decline and a sweet relief when they were released from the pain.

What a neat grandma story!

I can relate to the band concert thing. Heck I was in the band and hated concerts. Of course at the time, my high school hadn't been split up yet so we had 2300 students. This gave us 4 bands to sit through: Concert Band, Syphnoic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Each had a 25 min perforance and of course a good 15 min transition between each. Joy. Feeling your pain.

yikes!! That could be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

Cherie, that was a nice story. You never know what might trigger such a happy memory.

And GB, from the post of yours I just read on Jordan's thread, "Wind Ensemble" takes on a whole new meaning.

You just described Taylor's concerts. Except add in Concert Choir and Jazz Choir. Okay make them 20 minute performance with 10 min in between and a REALLY hot overpacked gym.

I'm glad he opted out of band this year!

Kendall is making up for it though with Jazz Choir.

Yes, I am kidding. My grandma and grandpa on my dad's side were quite well off. They always took very good care of us. I miss them.

Well, except at the end, my Grandma was going senile and would call me at work and speak to me in Japanese (she forgot english) and I would say "Grandma, I don't speak Japanese".She would go on and on and I would finally hang up........Only to have her call back 2-3 more times before she would just give up. She would also accuse me of stealing jewelry and money. After she moved into a home, we cleaned out her dresser and yup, all her jewelry and money was hidden among her clothes.

It's so sad to see someone's health deteriate but the mind is even worse. The last 2 times I saw my grandma she didn't know who I was.

What a sweet memory of your grandmother! :goodvibes My grandmother always sent me Avon lotion so whenever I smell it, I think of her.

Glad you survived the Christmas concert and Death didn't have to come for you.

My Grandmother lived with us on and off as we were growing up. She always put on Avon vitamoist lotion before bed. When I smell it I smell Grandma. I keep some in my desk at work.

DH is a band nerd and my oldest is one too! He starts his student teaching in January and graduates in May. He will making lot of more kids band nerds and lots of parents sit through band concerts.

My other Grandma sold Avon for years and collected the old perfume bottles.

Once she was fully "gone", she actually was better. she was happy. It's the in between part that probably was most difficult for her.

yeah, if you know you're loosing it, it's gotta be harder than after you loose it and don't know what you lost...........that made more sense in my head.

my grandpa had alzheimer's they think it started in his late 40's and he lived into his 80's. My Grandma said that for the most part he was happy and oblivious, but every once in awhile she would catch a look in his eyes and she could tell the he was briefly "there".

I've always said that I don't mind if I get it as long as I'm oblivious to it.

My Mum had alzeimers too!! She didn't remember me when I went home for my Dad's funeral and told my sister !"Isn't it nice of what's her name to clean my bathroom" To which my horrified sister replied " She"s your daughter" Mum said "and when did I have her "? :lmao:I was rolling my sister was upset !!! She also would tell the same story over and over and over !!:lmao:
I did find out an interesting fact about dementia !! When they look in a mirror the person they see is not how they remember themselves and it can cause some :scared1:scary or hilarios:lmao: responses
!!

what's funny is they aren't the best out there, but they always tasted sooo good.
When I showed the box to my kids I explained why they're so special to me, which of course ended with be crying...but a little later on Ethan asked if he could have one of the "special grandma chocolates".

Awww!! Too cute and sweet!

The other day I was telling DH that I wanted some "wintergreen" flavored mints. You know, the kind in the roll? I got all teary-eyed when telling him why. My Grandma ALWAYS had these mints. She would always pull them out in Church and pass them around to the family. Just something I remember. When I smell or taste wintergreen it makes me think of her. She had a special lotion too but something about those darn mints. :confused3
