Agree it is very ironic, but I am glad your family will go back to work. I am afraid there are many who won’t return if called back soon. I don’t foresee it working out well for those who choose to stay on unemployment...

Yikes, agree you can't stay on unemployment. I think it only lasts for 6 (really not sure of the # of months.) months anyway, so not really an option.

The government didn’t really think this through well. That was an oversight by both parties since neither wants to be seen as the one limiting aid.

You know what’s even crazier?
The small business aid package is even helping small investment firms that make the rich richer by hedging against such market drops. What’s in the news about this is absolutely true as I have a friend who works for one such firm. Not only did they make money, they’re going to be getting free money from the government to cover their salaries and other expenses.
You're right, the SBA EIDL and the PPP have been a complete joke so far from what I've read. Actual small businesses are not getting the help they need.

I think we might see partial normalcy in NY/NJ over this summer followed by an uncertain flu season. But it's going to be a long time before all regular interaction returns to a pre-virus state, hopefully in 2021.

Personally I'll go back to normal after the risk of exponential spread and high severity rates is significantly reduced. We need to gain control by containing spread and developing treatments.

My brother and two nephews are in this exact situation. Making more money on unemployment/bonus $600, then they did working. Financially they are in a better place now. They will probably be going back to work in June and not super excited about it due to finances. Crazy but true!
Yeah, the problem with the temps is that they didn’t have benefits in the first place so they don’t have a health insurance incentive to go back to work until the bonus program ends.

Sorry, my ignorance is showing, but these last few posts may go contrary with my past experience. Previously, you had to accept a similar position with similar pay or you lost ability to receive additional unemployment benefits. Do you get to run the clock with these emergency payments even if your most recent employer offers your same position?

Sister paid over a grand for Cobra when she lost insurance before this all. Monthly.

Economy needs to start so families can have their health insurance remain. I want my mom and pop town to have income. They cook homemade meals daily at places I frequent. My county gets 1 case every other day. Bigger national companies can't go income less forever.

My town gets at least one death every day.

I will go back to semi-normal as soon as we are allowed to. I’m retired and home is my favorite Place to be so the order to shelter in place hasn’t really bothered me much. Until lately. I’m starting to miss being able to wander a store at my leisure and not having restrictions on what I can buy. Once or twice a month I enjoy taking a day and hitting Kohl’s, Target, Joanne’s, TJ Max, etc. and just browsing. Also miss eating in restaurants. With it just myself and DH we tend to eat out 2-3 times a week, take-out just isn’t the same. And now we aren’t even allowed to go to our place up north, even if we would buy our gas and groceries at home before we left. Once restrictions are eased up it will be nice to go back to doing those things, but I will still be cautious about it. And still wash my hands often and not touch my face🙂

Agreed. We need to get back to normal within a few months.

Lots of people haven’t even received their first unemployment checks yet. I only know one person who has received the extra $600. Some can’t even apply!

food bank lines in my area are stretched out for miles. Food is running out daily before they can get to everyone.

just because someone will eventually get unemployment doesn’t help them now.

Oh sweetie the good thing is we get to spend time as a family but we can’t eat. Oh honey you’re sick, well we have no insurance.

Mortgages are being pushed back for 3 months if you lost your job but it’s not helping renters. Sure you can’t be evicted right now but once that rule is lifted landlords are going to want their money yesterday.

We need universal healthcare like the rest of the developed world, so we don’t have to worry about losing our health insurance during a pandemic.

Statement of fact for millions. I live in a state that allows bankruptcy attorneys to advertise. They updated and changed their ad lines weeks ago. They are prepared. If anyone knows how the system works it is bankruptcy attorneys in the rust belt.

Bankruptcy courts are mostly shutdown right now.

This is true. We have a pending Civil case against a neighbor. We waited 5 months for our first hearing with a judge. That was scheduled for yesterday - it got pushed back another 5 months. Our Atty. says the courts were shut down through June from the start.
