Yep, my luck...I'm getting the sniffles, right when it's time to go on vacation! I'm working hard at getting rid of it, but am curious as to the procedures, if you are sick on board.

Any and all prayers are welcome!!! :teeth:

Don't quote me, as I'm not an expert on this, but I thought the quarantines were more due to vomiting and diarrhea than for the common cold.

If they quarantine for the sniffles NO ONE would be out of their rooms this time of year!! It's rampant everywhere!

Hope someone chimes in with the real quarantine guidelines!!

Get some Zi-cam right away!! OTC stuff works great!!

Thanks, ohiominnie, you've eased my mind! I was just getting ready to beg you to ask your dh what he would recommend for a "big baby"! :p

Jeany...this is such a coincidence! I was listening to the radio this morning and the DJ was talking about taking some medicine that "starts with a Z" for her cold! I was dying to know what she was talking about, as I've never heard about it. Is it readily found at Walmart? (my dh already has his 'honey do' Walmart list for this afternoon! :teeth: )

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm still praying it will go away. I've put SOOO much time and effort into planning this trip!

Yep, add that to his honey-do list....I believe you can find it at Wal-Mart, if not Target or CVS, etc.. most stores carry it now. Good Luck!!

Zi-Cam works great! It will lessen the length and serverity of a cold. I got mine at CVS.

Thanks so much! I just called my dh to add it to his list! Between the 3 of us, we are all sick with colds, and dh has a broken arm! I don't know if they'll let us on board with the medicine cabinet that we will have to carry! :earseek:

Funny you should talk about your medicine cabinet. I went to Target yesterday and got children tylenol, cold stuff, adult tylenol, cold stuff, dramamine and rolaids. Hubby said he did not want to see my receipt. All of this is just incase, but if we need it, we got it.

I don't know if they'll let us on board with the medicine cabinet that we will have to carry!

Believe me, after you see the prices on OTC meds onboard, you'll be glad you brought it all with you!!

And I'll add another endorsement for Zi-Cam... if you start it early enough in your cold, it really does make a difference. Have a *great* trip, and I hope you all feel better soon!! Hey, no matter how sick I was, just being on the ship would make me feel tons better instantly. :teeth:

I hads a terrible cold on Friday-started Zicam, on Sat. I couldn't speak and had a horrid cough. Continued the Zicam. It is weds and I am 100 percent better!

As for the quarintine no they do not quarentine you for the common cold. Quarentine is for the symptoms of the norwalk virus which is vomiting, diarehha (sp?) ..I would assume that one would be quarentined for other highly transmittable diseases such as chicken pox etc. until they had been on antibiotics for 24 hours so as not to be contagious.

I don't know what the official policy is, but on our recent cruise (11/6-9), DS12, who usually eats like a bird, gorged himself on a lot of pretty rich food our first day on the Wonder and got sick in the middle of the night. After cleaning up as best I could, I laid awake worried about him getting quarantined. We contacted the stateroom host in the morning about finishing the clean up (I felt terrible about having to do that!) and they came and shampoo'd the carpet, no questions asked. Whew!

What is it ? an antihistamine? to just help releive some of the bad symptoms that come along with a cold...
I was always under the impression that colds have to run they're course....

Vomitting by-itself wouldn't be enough of a reason to quarantine someone.

If nothing else, I'm sure they have this happen all the time just from people getting sea-sick.

Another Zicam endorsement here as well! We should have stock in that company by now because we buy so much of it and go through so much of it!! It really does help lessen the length and severity of a cold IF you start it early enough. You can start it at anytime but the earlier you start it the better chances you have of it working quick.

Now if we could get rid of the stomach flu around here with something like that it would be great!

Have fun on your trip by the way!

Thanks to the advice on this board, I picked some of this stuff up at the store to have here at home.

I have twins, both were coming down with colds. One twin REFUSED to use the Zicam, and was sick for several days. The other twin started using the Zicam the first day she had a sore throat and was better by the next day, and by the day after there was no sign of her cold at all.

DH was starting to come down with a cold on Sunday (and laid around all day complaining he was sick). He started using the Zicam and the next day felt better, and today he is great!

I have not used it yet, but I just picked up some more at the store today for whomever gets the next cold. This is the FIRST thing that I have ever seen to really help with colds. We used the 'zinc' cough drops before, and they helped some, but nothing like this.

For now on, I am going to pack it for all our vacations, in case anyone starts to come down with a cold while we are traveling.

Yep we buy it at Costco everytime we go. We get a 2 pack of bottles to squirt (not the fancy stuff like swabs) but they are 15 dollars for a 2 pack and so far I think I have 7 or 8 bottles of it and there is a new bottle in each piece of luggage as well just in case I forget it (god forbid). My kids have the yucky cold going around here too and my daughter used the Zicam and got better much quicker. My 2 boys however refused it and are still battling with it and in doing so have given it to hubby and I am sure I am next.

Just wondering, I saw that Zicam now has tablets. Do they work as well? Has anyone tried them. I stuck with the swabs because we have seen that they work first hand.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried the new forms.
Thanks!
DJ

Havent' seen them yet, we love the swabs! Much easier than the pump, plus several people can share one package that way. I wonder how the tablets work as the theroy is that the gell in the nose stops the cold cells from replicating....

Well that is what I thought too. I guess I need to hear others say they work before I am willing to try them instead of the swabs. We like the swabs for the same reason; all of us can use them since each swab is a one time use thing.
