RIV outsold CCV over same amount of time (adjusted for when they both first went on sale) up until COVID.

RIV was selling like gangbusters but COVID derailed it then Disney released two of the best resorts with an add-on for VGF and fixing the room types at POLY.

RIV not selling out comes down directly to COVID and DVC choices with POLY/VGF.

Best December in 8 years back in 2019 when Riviera finally opened and people saw it: https://dvcnews.com/dvc-program-men...propels-dvc-to-best-december-sales-in-8-years

They were expecting even further growth to sales numbers at Riviera until Covid hit: https://dvcnews.com/dvc-program-men...20-the-beginning-of-a-new-era-in-direct-sales

EDIT: for clarity

Fascinating articles. Thanks for sharing. You might have just put the nail in to coffin to the argument (that I was somewhat sympathetic to) that resale restrictions have anything to do with RIV’s sales. Seems like it is entirely on account of COVID combined with the timing of VGF and Poly sales.

So my take is that resale restriction do impact it but its a minor part of the whole story.

Regarding timing something interesting is that in the 2010 decade:
Most total points sold - POLY
Most points sold in month - VGF

Found this article when I was going back to look for the other articles.

Great article, I am wondering do the cost of direct points rise every year in the beginning of the year like they did this year or has there been years where the price doesnt rise?

May RVA declaration 545k points resulted in excess of 1 million more points declared than @wdrl May direct sales data shows sold.

I suspect June data may be better than May, but I am not sure it is going to reach the 77k RVA has been averaging. (May was 33k lower than the average).

Does Disney want to sell out their only non-bus to Epcot World Showcase and DHS resort on the horizon?

I may have missed something, but I believe VGF BPK was the only time DVD decided to have a fire sale to sell out a resort. (IIRC, there was a proxy battle going on at the time).

This is a very good question that I had not thought of before (and also tempers my expectations for what the next incentive period might hold). Disney may be all too happy to let RIV plod along with slightly better incentives than Poly (and also lower sales volume). Hard to know how they're thinking from a corporate revenue perspective. Another one of those things where your average buyer likely doesn't know anything about how long RIV has been around vs. how long it takes for resorts to sell out.

They will know what’s left on the contract. Technically you’re paying more and getting less each year.
