When will demo at MK start?

Construction has already begun, but it is all currently backstage and not affecting Guest areas. No "official" date has been announced on when it will affect Guest areas but most are guessing Toontown will be closed by fall.

Much of the work will be backstage for quite some time. Toontown will be the one big noticeable closure/demo, but as of now the most detail that's been announced is that it will be closing "Fall 2010".

yikes...we were planning a trip for August or Sept...I guess I should do August?

Nobody knows.

And, we certainly don't know WHAT or HOW MUCH will be closed when they
do venture into the current areas.

definitely a big guess for all. per Robo's amazing maps with the layovers- it appears that most of the expansion is backstage anyhow, so that helps that it won't affect as much. But with Toontown, who knows. we are going Dec again, so will be interesting to see what is going on by then.

So does this mean Dumbo and toontown are probably safe for our trip in May? DD#1 will be SOOOO upset if she can't ride dumbo or see Minnie and Mickey's homes! Plus she loved Donald's boat last time. I hoped to let the girls run around a bit in this area for down time.

Man..we are taking a trip with our in-laws in Nov....their 1st trip ever. I 'll be so sad that they never saw Toontown...and really upset if we can't ride Dumbo. We always do that ride 1st and my kids keep telling their Grammy and Poppy aboout it.

We're going with friends at the end of Nov and I've been worried about how much we won't be seeing due to this construction. It will be their first visit so it's a bummer for them but a great excuse to go back! I was hoping to get a trip in before they took stuff away for "one last picture"...

Robo - if you're still here, I tried to print a map that you had linked to on another thread and could only get half printed out. Could you PM me some directions to get back to it (it was a labeled map of the proposed changes)?? I wanted to take it home to show the kiddos so they don't freak when we go and things are changed around. THANK YOU!! :goodvibes

Probably... but no way right now to really know for sure.

Totally conjecture on my part, but I based on the plans and what I've read, I wouldn't expect to see Dumbo moving anytime soon. Seems to me that lot needs to be put in place before they'll be ready for that.

Again - total speculation. I don't know any more than anyone else at this point. Which isn't much.

I'm hoping Dumbo will be the last thing to come down...maybe even right before the new Dumbo opens!

I would *think* Dumbo would be a last minute, quick move - afterall, the entire State Fair goes up and down overnight and Dumbo is just a midway ride! We are going in Dec and I am just trying to have faith that they will try to keep interruptions to a minimum for the paying guests they have (especially during peak crowd times)! I am bummed about loosing the Barnstormer - I will have a 4 year old and it is the *perfect* intro to coasters - I hate to chuck her on BTMRR without a little Goofy first, kwim?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they are taking the barnstormer out. Just retheming it maybe? I think I heard they might retheme it with a circus theme to fit in with the new dumbo ride since it will be next to it.

Correct about Barnstormer staying and being rethemed. Most recent info is that it will be circus themed to coincide with "dueling Dumbos" :clown:

I've definitely missed something here - there's construction going to happen around Toontown? Could someone fill me in - I feel out of the loop!

Imagineering project office for Fantasyland expansion setting up this week
Jan 21, 2010

The first steps to beginning the massive construction project of the new Fantasyland are now underway. This week will see significant step of Imagineering taking up a former backstage rehersal area in Mickey's Toontown Fair to establish their project office to oversee the construction project.

As previously posted, they have started "behind the scenes". Also, the site has some FAQ about the project ...

When does the new Fantasyland open?
The new Fantasyland will be opened in phases, with the majority of the new land opening in 2012. The Pixie Hollow area will open in 2013.

When does construction begin?
Construction is speculated to begin late 2009/early 2010.
The first steps to beginning the massive construction project of the new Fantasyland are now underway. The week of 18 Jan 2010 saw the significant step of Imagineering taking up a former backstage rehersal area in Mickey's Toontown Fair to establish their project office to oversee the construction project.

Where will the new expansion be built?
The new area is to be built in place of Mickey's Toontown Fair, and the area north of the current Fantasyland, occupying all of the space of the former 20,000 Leagues attraction which was cleared in 2004.
For a look at this area see photos of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea demolition, and this video of a Skyway ride from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland.

Will the expansion of Fantasyland impact my trip to Fantasyland during construction between 2010 and 2013?
Disney have said that the existing Fantasyland will not be affected during the expansion, and all the attractions will remain open during, and after construction. Dumbo is being moved, but it isn't clear yet what downtime that will involve.

I believe the barn storme roller coaster was to be themed for snow white, if I am recalling correctly it was to be on the lines of the mines with the dwarves:confused3

Old rumor, I'm afraid.

I hope they do not include clowns for this circus theme!!
I do not like the circus idea at Disney!princess:
