Anyone know how far out you can book airfare?

My hubby and I are now thinking of moving our November 2012 trip up to September 2012, but ONLY if we can do a mid-week to mid-week trip since my son plays football and we are only willing to let him out one week for vacation (ok not so much us but his coach).

So we can only go September if we can afford airfare since if we go in November, we will drive.

Any ideas when it will go on sale?

Bigger/Older/Legacy (not sure what to call them these days) airlines such as Continental, American, US, and Delta begin booking 330 days in advance. Economy airlines such as Jet Blue, Spirit, Southwest, etc. usually open up booking windows at around 6-9 months in advance. If you are looking for one of these airlines the best thing to do is to sign up for their emails so that you get notified when they are extending their schedule (and of sales as well).

Ugh I don't know what to do. Continental is giving us a price of $1,152.00, but I am guessing I can get cheaper with JetBlue or SouthWest???? I know Continental is only going to go up by the time JB or SW get their September dates out!

Just don't forget to add any baggage fees to what you're seeing for fares. JetBlue will allow 1 free bag per seat and Southwest will allow 2. Beyond that, I don't think there's any airlines that offer free checked bags.
