When TV shows jump the shark

I don't think Buffy EVER jumped the shark. Miss that show and seeing Spike without a shirt...:)

Scooby Doo - all I'm going to mention is a little pup named Scrappy :rolleyes1

I wish they had fed Scrappy to the Shark when they were hitting the ramp. Ta-da-da-da-da-DAAAAA.....*GULP*

One of my favorite online games is Scrappy Stinks

Found the Homer picture!

Will & Grace jumped for me with the whole baby thing...but I did keep watching.

I agree with you about that. I thought that the fall episodes, and the first few in Feb were too focused on the Others, Kate, Jack, and Sawyer. (And that says a lot since my two favorites are Kate and Sawyer.) The only thing I really liked in the begining of the season was that Kate finally picked Sawyer.

I also wasn't happy with the storylines of the Losties. Not only did they not get a lot of air time, but I didn't like that they killed Eko, and then there was that whole Nikki and Paulo, who never had a point, and they just killed them off, with them never having any real purpose.

I know what you mean. When they killed off Ana Lucia, I was "OMG!" My DH and I were both bummed about them killing off Eko - he was one of the most interesting characters. The Nikki and Paulo thing made no sense, but now I really like Desmond's character.

It just seemed like the first few episodes of this season they were gathering everyone up and climbing the ramp. Hopefully they won't jump the shark yet - this was such a great show the first two seasons!

When Michael and Lucy left Barney.
I missed the 12 year olds singing their ABC's and learning how to count.

As an X Files fan-they should have ended the show when Scully had the baby. I think that was the end of season 8? Anyway, that episode was really the end of the series for me. They tried to do an L&O type thing and switch in new characters to keep the show going, but it failed miserably.

ER-for me it was when Anthony Andrews (Dr Green) left. I cried like a baby when his character died and I just couldn't get into it anymore after that.

NYPD Blue-when it became the Sipowitz crisis of the week. He's an alcoholic, his son gets shot, his partner dies....good grief.

Heroes: Last Monday, when Mohinder Suresh didn't simply bash Syler's brains in with a fire extinguisher, or a desk, or something along those lines while Sydler lay on the floor unconscious after being knocked out with the rolling blackboard. Instead, he wasted the hour it must have taken for Suresh to carry Peter (who was dead, BTW) all the way down the 5 flights of stairs of his walk up, onto the street, into his cab, and uptown to Mother Petrelli's pad while Slyer caught up on a little much needed beauty sleep. Sooooooooo lame!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that made ZERO sense.

I'm willing to suspend reality and accept a flying man, a time bender, a mind reader, an indestructible cheerleader and a shape shifter, but I simply can't accept that kind of sloppy writing. I took the show off of my DVR settings after watching last weeks episode. I'm done!

I don't know, but I'd imagine it to be rather difficult to try to kill an unconscious man. I can easily accept that Mohinder is nowhere brutal enough to be able to do that. He's no Niki, ya know... ;)

I must agree that Scrappy ruined Scooby Doo! In my family we refer to those episodes/series as the "dark episods" :rotfl2:

A few pages ago I posted that I felt that Las Vegas jumped the shark this season, well earlier today DH and I were talking about it and decided that it jumped when Nessa didn't return. We just felt like something was missing. How about this beinga super-short season. We felt very jipped!

As for Survivor, I just can't get into it. It's been DH and my thing since we got together but it's just losing interest.

CSI Vegas just isn't doing ot for me this season either, don't know why...

7th Heaven needs to end in dignity and bring back the Camden kids and lose the new ones. I started watching it last season and really liked it, but this season is awful. I like what I have seen in reruns of previous seasons.

I to think that Rosanne juped when the won the lotery. I liked the becky humor. The show always poked fun at itself which was great as it was a more realistic show than some of the fluff that we see.

I miss Spike too (and the guy who played him had waaaay too short a run on Smallville) but I think Buffy possibly jumped the shark when she hooked up with him, aka her SECOND vampire-with-a-soul... guess that's just her type...

Like when the original Becky returned and the first thing Roseanne says to her is "Where the he11 have you been?" That was classic.

Very interesting thread but I must admit that I never ever heard of the phrase "jump the shark"!! Where in heck have I been all these years!!!!:dance3:

I agree with the replies that mentioned when cousins or other distant family relatives join a show, that's when the show jumps the shark. There I said it!! Cool! :thumbsup2

Reality shows can jump too- I think The Apprentice jumped this season when they went to L.A. It's time to hang it up, Mr. Trump. You're fired!

2 shows:
Joan of Arcadia when they had Hillary Duff guest star,
and the Cosby Show when the older daughter married a naval officer who looked like a runway model, then had twins they called Winnie and Nelson.

I think Denise (2nd daughter) married the naval officer? wasn't Olivia his daughter? The older one (Saundra?) married the funny guy who did Cosby impressions and had Winnie and Nelson.

I've got a few:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: jumped the Shark when they brought Buffy back from the Dead, the show should have ended when she sacrificed herself for her sister Dawn

Angel: when they took over the Wolfram & Hart offices

Smallville: its seems to be more about Lana then about Clark at times

Agree! Although Buffy back from the dead was actually somewhat awesome with the Musical episode. I think it really jumped the shark when Willow started using magic like crack.

NOt sure if this one has been mentioned, but

FULL HOUSE when Uncle Jessie and Aunt Becky had those awful acting twins!

Same with 7th heaven..those twins were horrible! too painful to watch!

Buffy: I generally agree with those who posted here that the show jumped the shark when Buffy died (for the second time). However, my DH passionately disagrees; pointing out that several excellent episodes like 'Hush' and 'Once More With Feeling' came out afterwards.

QUOTE]

Nitpick - Buffy died in season 5 and came back in season 6

"Hush" was in season 4 - and is a GREAT episode!
