when to visit?

Hi. My parents recently joined the DVC and are planning a family trip to SSR in 2007. They plan to bring 10 of us (kids and grandkids, ages 6-66) and want to plan the trip when school is not in session. Essentially, that leaves us three choices: Christmas week, Easter week, or during the summer. Does anyone have any recommendations about which time is the best (or worst) to visit? Thanks.

The week of Christamas and the week of Easter are incredibly busy, and so packed it will be difficult for a large group to enjoy. I would say near the end of the summer might be your best bet. Sure it's very hot down there then, and can be very rainy, but crowds won't be as bad as the holiday times.

Welcome to the DIS boards!

I agree with Diane...given those choices, summer will be best for you. Due to having school age children, that's the only time we've gone (several trips now) and as long as you are sensible about the heat it's not a problem. Sounds like a great family trip....enjoy! :)

Are you sure it is Easter week? I ask because depending on where you live April vacation does not always fall on Easter week. In Mass. it was Easter this year but I just booked 2 two bedrooms for a family trip to SSR April 2007 vacation week and it does not fall on Easter.

check with everyone schedule - some kids now get off in the fall break,

is spring break a possiblity.....

the crowds might be worst - but at least the weather will be fine (well most of the time)

I live in NC and my sister's family is in NY, so although we each have mid-winter and fall breaks they do not coincide with each other. The only time off we share besides the summer is Easter week and Christmas. What are your thoughts on the beginning of the summer? End of June, early July?

early June you have to make sure you aren't there during the gay rights....

now I am not against gays at all - but their language and behavior are not what you want your kids to see.

so make that the middle of June and it might work - but kept in mind that the highs will probably be in the 90's and lows in the 70's... heat and humdity are high!!!

if you can take it I would go.

I have been in July before - same situation heat and humdity - but if you go in the early morning - (definitely go with EMH) - then leave when it gets too crowded or hot (around 10 or 11 am) - come back that evening (around 5 or 6 pm) - then stay until closing (again use EMH) - you can do it....

let the kids swim in the afternoon, shop, boat, bike, watch viedos....whatever they and you can agree on.

kept in mind that sometimes the MK is open until midnight - so with EMH you are talking 3 am.... most of the parks are open until 9pm - so again you are talking midnight when you add the EMH.

you can do it!!!

I will say the end of August, with your choices.

Have you considered Thanksgiving Week? Schools in our area have the Mon-Wed off before Thanksgiving. But even if you don't you could pull the kids for 3 days. We have been there several times over Thanksgiving and loved it.

I have considered Thanksgiving week but my sister won't pull her kids out of school. I think her school district is really strict about that sort of thing. Anyway, thanks for everyone's input. I know we'll have a blast whenever we decide to go!
