When to visit after the new year?

We are looking at moving away from the west coast in the next few months, and DH and I would both like to make another trip to DLR before we leave.

We had originally wanted to come out for the F&W festival (but clearly that's not happening :)), and/or for the opening of TLM ride...but it's not looking like we'll be staying out here long enough for that.

Sooo...we're looking at visiting sometime in Jan/Feb. When would you go? We'd like to see the shows (like Fantasmic, RDTC, WOC, etc) - but we'd also like to avoid huge crowds. I realize to do this, we'll likely need to go over a weekend and that is currently in our plans. We're thinking maybe a Wed-Tues trip, or Wed-Wed or so.

I'd imagine we want to avoid MLK day weekend and President's Day weekend...anything else we should avoid? Or anything else happening that we should try to get there to see?

We're also concerned about rides being down..Splash isn't a huge deal, but HM is our favorite ride and we wouldn't want that to be down while we're there.

Any thoughts would be helpful! I'd love to go there now, but with the holidays coming up I don't see that happening :(

I seem to remember Feburary being light crowds and most of the rides are operating. If memory serves HM was open but IASW was still down. It's been a while since I've been there during this time, so my memeory is a bit spotty, but I do remember the crowds being very low.

Okay, first, if you are going after New Year's you MUST be there on a weekend in order to see fireworks and/or Fantasmic! They both run Fri-Sun only after January 3rd.

Next, you mentioned Haunted Mansion... It closes on January 3rd and is not scheduled to re-open until January 14th. If that is a make it or break it factor for your trip, you will want to plan around it.

Also, MLKJ Day is in there somewhere. I might try to avoid it.

Lastly, if it's a small world is important to you (though you didn't mention it), it will be closed starting January 18th scheduled to re-open on the 28th.

There are various other closures during January that you will want to check, in case something that is closed is important to you.

Good luck with your planning and enjoy,
Dreams

I figured it wouldn't take long for Disney to go back to the "slow time" and only having fireworks on the weekend. We're already booked for a trip elsewhere the weekend of Jan 8th..and the following weekend is MLK Day...so we're probably looking at a trip sometime after that.

DH's birthday is the end of January, so that's a possibility...i'll look into the ride closures too. Thanks!
