When to try to rent points?

We already know that we'll be staying at OKW next fall with my in-laws who are also members. That will leave us with 2005 points that we won't be using. DH and I have discussed renting them instead of banking them.

We own at VWL, and it occured to me today that people would probably be interested in renting the points to use in December 2005. I'm just wondering if I would have to try to rent these at the 11 month window, or if anytime before the 7 month window opens up would be sufficient. Any opinions?

The more time that is left on the points, the more valuable they are. With Thanksgiving, Christmas and the whole holiday season 11 month window soon to be upon up in a month or two, it would be wise to start planning on renting them sooner than later. Having the 11 month window for December is a very valuable thing to have and you don't want to lose that by waiting too long.

The only time I rented points (I was loathe to give them up, but we went to Cancun instead), I rented them as soon as I knew they wouldn't be needed. I posted them at $10/pt on the board, and had a reply within a day. The person just wanted 3 nights for a time in February, and was flexible as to location. I found and reserved a spot immediately, and the rest was just details. Later the couple bought into DVC, but I didn't get the referral bonus .

I believe that as soon as you really know you won't need the points, you should post them on the board. People don't just want to rent at the high season times - they'll settle for many different possibilities.

We are going to rent points to a lady who wants to stay at VWL in early December 2005. I'm in the process right now of getting sample contracts (thanks, JimC) which I will adapt to my own use. Given that there is more & more to do as the holidays draw nearer, I'd rather have everything in place asap, leaving only the phone call to make in January.

I had many request for the one I had.

especially since you can tell people about it much sooner than I could....my brother cancelled on me just a month before.
