How far in advance would be appropriate to send a save the date magnet to those you are inviting and how long afterward to send the formal invitation? We are close to the six month mark and I'm not sure about how much notice is needed. When did you send yours?

Disney sent our save the dates out so I don't remember when it was but my niece is getting married on Sept. 30,2006 and I received her save the date magnet back in February.
My DH and I were married in WDW on May 2 and we mailed our invitations out at the end of February.

Disney said they will mail my save the dates as soon as I sign my contract or shortly after. I am aloud to sign at 12 months out so I figure around 12 or 11 months. I also think I will send out a newsletter or informal save the date so people can just keep it in mind. I know with making travel arrangements it can get difficult. My mother for instance needs to put in for days off this Dec so she would have needed to know the dates well before then so she can get the time off.

Disney sent our Save the dates out at the 10 month mark after we signed the contract and got the guest list to them. We sent out invitations early around the 9 month mark. I think 6 months is good for Save teh dates especailly if people need to travel to Florida. Hope this helps

we sent our own save the dates with magnets at 1 year out to give our family/guests plenty of time to decide, plan & save. we sent formal invitations in november for our march 21st wedding & had guests rsvp by mid january.

I sent my save the dates out at about the 8 month mark and im going to be sending out my invitations shortly.

We sent ours as soon as we had the place secured for our Oct Wedding ... so I believe they went out the first week of March ... 90% of our guests are traveling so I wanted to give them the heads up to make plans. I think you'll find that the answers vary from 6 mo to 1 year ahead.

My invitations are going out the second week of July for a Sept 15th RSVP date. I wanted to give people 8 weeks which is on the longer side but I know I like to plan ahead. 98% of our guests got save the dates (anyone else out there not able to abbreviate that because they think it sounds bad?)

Okay, well I'm mailing my save the dates tomorrow and I'm mailing the invites out about a month later. Its close together, but oh well.

I think that is fine. I sent my std magnets just a few days ago at the year mark. I don't know if that is too far in advance but hey whatever I thought I would give people a heads up. In terms of invites I think considering it is Disney the 4-5 month mark is alright?

my wedding is right before yours and i am in the process of sending out my magnets. I am not having a disney wedding so my formal invite won't go out until end of november

Disney sent our Save the Dates out for us, i think they went out around november/december.

We sent our invitations out late March with a May 1st RSVP, for our June 18th wedding. We figured this would give us time to get to the stragglers by May 18th.

I definitely think that the time frame depends on whether you are a custom or intimate.

I'm an intimate so I sent my STDs (hee hee) just a few weeks ago with a newsletter. This was admittedly a bit late (wedding is in October), but I had already had verbal contact with all my guests long before that.

I plan to send my invitations in mid/late August...but again, since I frequently speak to most of my guests the invitations are merely a formality and won't really contain much info they don't already know!
