When to present your TIW card?

In general, you may present the card whenever you like.

If I am asked specifically before ordering if I have a TIW membership or if I have a "discount" I will say I do.

If I am asked if I am on a dining plan, I say "no."

If I am not asked, I don't tell.

I generally give it to the server when I ask for the check. I have, however, often told the server about it in advance, just not presented it.

We have had this card for many years (back when it was called "Disney Dining Experience" and we always get our check, then put our credit card (or KTTW card) *AND* our TiW card down at the same time. That way, when the CM goes to run the credit card, they can alter it at that time to reflect the 20% off.

LOVE my TiW card!

I'm leaving this thread open as long as there is no specific discussion about tipping. I edited a post already because of a reference to tipping. If it becomes a tipping discussion I'll close this one too. The OP is welcome to ask questions about tipping on the Tipping Information sticky thread (subject to the guidelines in the first post).

I just want to add that I like to see the check in it's entirety before anything has been discounted.

Also, as a former waitress, I would prefer to deal with discounting the check AND running the credit card all in one fell swoop, rather than dealing with doing the discount, coming back to the table, getting the credit card, going back to run the card, etc. Too much back and forth to the table.

JUst wondering if you have experienced better/worse service? I thought we had to say that we were on the plan, I guess in Nov/Dec. I might do as you do! Thanks.

I do not see any difference in service. Bad service has occurred a few times but I don't think it has anything to do with having TIW or not having TIW. I'll put the membership card in with the credit card after I take a look at the bill to make sure it's right.

You need to tell the server if you are on the prepaid Disney dining plan with the credits on your key card. It doesn't mean TIW...TIW isn't a dining plan. Dining plan checks are rung up differently from the start of the meal, so I don't suggest that anyone say they're not on a dining plan when they are. Servers or hosts should always ask if you are on the Disney Dining Plan.

Sorry...I didn't see the closed thread until after I posted my response. :guilty: Although I don't think my mention was very controversial...I know darn well that these threads can turn that way in the blink of an eye!:scared1: So I understand your point.

Do we still get free valet parking if we dine at a resort restaurant? I have always loved that perk...I just know that WDW no longer handles valet parking, they contracted it out. Does the new company still honor that?

I think they *always* ask if you are on the DDP. They don't always ask if you have TiW. In fact, I think they rarely do.

we have had the TIW card for numerous years and while they never ask for it specifically. I do give it to them if they ask if we want dessert. When we say yes or no thank you then I give them the TIW card...so when they bring it back to the table it reflects the discount on the slip. Then we give them either cash or the credit card......We love this discount

Yes, I know about DDP, but I thought you had to say about TIW as well. In the past, I have always stated so. I really didn't notice a difference in service but really before free DDP and the card, we really only ate 2 or so TS meals per vacation. To be honest, I found those trips to be less structured, therefore more relaxing! Back then 2003 and prior the TS were easy to book the day of! Anyway that was an aside thanks for the info!

I've had TIW since they opened it up to annual passholders, so it's been a few years. Not once has anyone ever said "You should have told me you had this before you ordered." They have to get a manager to approve the discount anyway and this isn't done until everything is rung up.

If the server asks if I have a TIW membership I will say I do. (I must say I don't recall ever being asked if I have one specifically, but being asked about "discounts" a few times, I'll say I have it then, too). But if they ask if I have a dining plan, that doesn't include TIW, and a lot of guests think it does. When they ask that, they want to know if you are on the prepaid dining plan, so they can explain to you what is included.

We've had the TIW card for many years, going back to when it was the DDE. I have never been asked about it at the beginning of the meal. They do always ask if you're on "any dining plans" but since TIW is not a dining plan, we always say no.

I wait until the bill is placed on the table, then put my TIW card and credit card or room key in the folio at the same time. Never had a complaint or problem doing that way.

I assume they ask if you are on a dining plan so they can make sure to "help" you order "correctly" for your plan so you won't be unpleasantly surprised when you receive your bill. Since that's not an issue with TIW (it applies to anything and everything you order) there is really no reason for them to know you have it in advance.

I never was asked for it, I just thought I had read you need to present it prior that's all. We, too, have had it since DDE. I will present it at the end this trip! I will see if my service is changed. On our 2008 trip we had some on DDP and some out of pocket. I used the card and most times the waiter/waitress put the most expensive on the DDP bills and the lesser on theTIW card. That was nice of them I thought.

Just another reminder to please keep tipping/service as a result of tipping out of the discussion.

Tipping discussion is limited to the sticky that TDC Nala mentioned above.

Thanks :goodvibes

We don't present it--and the servers don't really need it--until after the meal. As mentioned, the server needs to get a managers approval anyway, and that isn't until after the meal is over.

we were just at WDW last week - used our TIW card numerous times (character meals for the grandsons) we never experienced a problem with sevice it was always very good. When asked about the dinning plan we always said no we don't have the dining plan but do have a TIW card. Servers were alway cheerful and said give us the card at the end of the meal. Worked great. think the card is definately worth it
