When to link tickets?

I've never had to deal with this before, but I've had tickets from UT for about 2 years which will be used for our December trip. I haven't linked them, yet, and wonder when I should. I don't want to do it too soon due to fear of trip cancelation (although I think we are finally settled on our dates). Advice?

No reason not to link them now. If anything, it’s a safeguard against losing the physical ticket media (assuming you have physical media)

Thank-you. What would happen if they are linked and the trip had to be canceled or date changed?

Since you have had them about 2 years, I assume that means you purchased them before expiration dates were added to Magic Your Way tickets?

I'd go ahead and link them. If you end up cancelling, they will stay in your MDE until you do use them.

The only reason you might not want to link them is if there is any possibility of wanting to sell them to someone else. Perfectly legal with unused tickets, but if they are linked to you in MDE, it makes it more complicated. You would have to transfer them to someone else in your MDE list.

Your MDX account is a place to save data. Your tickets will basically sit in your account until you need to use them.

Linked tickets allow you to practice booking, confirming, modifying, and canceling FPs. Just remember to cancel any FPs that you practice booking to open them back up for others.

Practicing booking FPs does not affect your tickets at all.

Thank-you for clearing things up for me!

You definitely need to link them at least 60 days prior to your trip (if you are staying onsite) or 30 days prior to your trip (if you are staying offsite) so that you can make Fast Passes.

I can't think of any reason NOT to do it now. Trip Cancellation shouldn't matter. Once the ticket are linked to MDE, they won't go anywhere, even if your trip gets cancelled.

I would link them now. Nothing happens to the tickets until you activate it by using them. Otherwise they just sit there. As others said, it also avoids the chance of losing them.
You definitely want to link them before your FP window opens.

No reason not to link now.
You at the very least want to link them prior to your FP+ window opening or you won't be able to make your FP+ selections.
Not sure what you THINK is going to happen to the tickets if you decide not to go in December but nothing is going to happen to them.
They won't just disappear. They'll still be in there linked for when you want to use them.

With UT, the reason not to link them is that UT will let you return them for a refund as long as you haven't linked them. Then if you cancel a trip you don't have hundreds or thousands of dollars tied up in Disney tickets. But if these tickets are two years old they may not be refundable anymore anyway. When I have tickets from UT I linked them a month before our FP window opens so I can practice making FPs.
