When to go?

In the past we have done longer trips in the spring (taking dds out of school). This year older dd turns 16 and I want to do a quick mother/daughter trip with her and do the Kings to the Kingdom tour. Her birthday isn't until August.

We could go towards the end of Aug, probably Labor Day weekend. Dd wouldn't miss this school this way (she will be a junior and will have most AP/honors classes).

We could tag onto a Monday they (most likely) will have off the 3rd week of Sept. She would miss 1 day of school as we would leave Fri after school and have Sat/Sun/Mon in the park coming home Tues.

We could go the 2nd week of Oct (most likely) tagging on to a Fri they have off school. She would miss 1 day and we would leave Thurs after school and have Fri/Sat/Sun in the parks coming home on Mon.

The dates off are based on the calendar for the last few years. No plans would be really made until the school calendar comes out. I know school won't start until after Labor Day as this is a state law.

So based on crowds, weather, and other factors, which time would you go?

I would go at the end of August. September and even early October are still really hot and the low crowds in August are nice. Plus not missing school would sway me that way, just easier.

Are you sure you aren't opening before Labor Day? A lot of schools here in NJ are, even though they never do, due to the very late Labor Day.

Happy planning :)

I agree the low crowds the end of August are enticing, but the heat and mostly the humidity make it unbearable to me.
I would choose October. In addition to all the usual magic in WDW, in October you have MNSSHP option as well as Food & Wine festival in Epcot.
Have Fun

Michigan has a state law that schools can't start until after Labor Day, tourism related.

While late Aug is a really good time to go, Labor Day weekend will be crowded as many get in one last trip before school starts.

I would opt for the 3rd week in Sep. Lowest crowds of the 3 dates. It will be hotter than Oct, but that week of Oct, many others also have off and make a quick trip down.

EasyWDW has all three days of last year's Labor Day weekend as 4s; that's moderate at best (or worst ;)).

We are thinking of going the end of August... any reason why we should pick one over the other for the 3rd or 4th week???

... specifically 8/15-22 or 8/22-29????

I would pick either the September or October option because then you could do Mickey's Not-So-Scary. Even if you don't do that, I just love seeing the Halloween decorations up. If you go in October and plan on visiting Epcot, be sure to factor in Food & Wine, which may be good or bad depending on your outlook. It would be very crowded if you're there on a weekend.

Sounds like the 3rd week in Sept might be the best, I didn't realize that MNSSHP was that early. Now I just have to wait for the school calendar to come out!!
