We are planning to go to Disney World in January 2007 and with never having gone before during that month I have some questions if anyone can help.....

What is the weather like??

How are the crowds??

Which week do you think would be better? Jan 5-13th or Jan 12-20th

We are doing a magical/grand gathering during that time and will be a large party of 15.....

Any help or information would be appreciated.

Hi,

The crowds are pretty much non-existent once you get past New Year's Week. Marathon weekend (Jan 5-6-7 in 2007) will see little impact on the parks but will cause some disruptions in WDW buses due to the races. MLK weekend in a little bit more crowded but still much less crowded than most other times of the year.

Weather is unpredictable: you could have warm days with cool mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons stuck in the 40s. And both of those could happen within a few days of each other!

We go often in January. Crowds are pretty low (I don't think there would be much difference in the weeks you list).

Weather can be cool, but we like that for walking around the parks. The only disadvantage is we usually skip the rides that can get you wet, and don't plan on much pool or waterpark time (but the hot tub back at the resort is nice even when it's cool).

We are thinking of possibly going the 13th-20th next January as well. Although we might have to put it off another year and just go to Disneyland again in January instead. We shall see!

Jan. is a great time to visit WDW! Either of your weeks would probably be great. You may want to find out when Florida kids go back to school after Christmas. This year a lot of families had off until Jan. 9 or something, and I heard that week was much busier than usual. We have been to Disney for weeks starting with Jan. 2 and Jan. 5. With the Jan. 2 visit we caught the tail end of holiday crowds for a few days. We've been there during the marathon, but it didn't seem to affect crowds in the parks. I don't know if that is still the case now that the 1/2 marathon and full marathon are two different days. I would avoid MLK weekend. There is also usually a big homebuilders convention around then. This year our trip started Jan. 22, and it was the lowest crowds yet. :goodvibes All three times we've had good weather although the temperatures really fluctuated from day to day. :sunny: Have fun planning! :)

I went in January of 2005 directly after New Years. There were no crowds, so we did and saw everything we wanted to with no waits. The weather was warm in the day time, but cooled off significantly at night. Water rides at night would probably be a bad idea, but the water at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon is heated! You could totally go if you could stand the cooler weather when you're OUT of the water!

January is a great time to go IMO. This coming January, we are planning to visit the parks for 5 days. We will drive down Sunday the 7th, go to the park on the 8th through 12th, and then drive back home on Saturday the 13th. This week was chosen because we will arrive after the holiday crowds have left and we will leave before the MLK weekend crowds come in.

We will be there this week, too, and chose it for the same reasons. Hopefully it won't be too :cold:.

We were there in Jan the 19th-24th of this year! It was WONDERFUL!!!! We had sun everyday and temps in the upper 70s and lower 80s! :sunny: Granted those temps were above normal, but we definitely weren't complaining. And the crowds were really non-existant. We will definitely go back in Jan again--we are heading down this sept. and hoping the crowds will be just as thin.

I guess North Carolinians think the same way. Gosh we're smart! :rotfl2:

We left Jan 5th and the weather was great, some cool mornings and eves, we rode the water rides during the day. NYE and the day before & after hit almost 80 if I remember and the nights were great. We didn't notice a big change in the crowds until the 4th.

We will be returning 1/1-9/07 hoping for lower crowds, it is my understanding that the marathons don't have a huge impact on park attendance as the runners are not expending their energy at the parks, don't know how true this is just what I was told.

I would think the 12-20th would be better. The weekend before is marathon weekend so there will be more people there and on the race days, various roads will be closed.

The weather can range from 30's up to mid 70's but it is generally very nice.

I have always gone in Oct and want to try Jan but could only go the first week of JAN 1 thru 6.........

How good or bad would this week be????????

Thanks
Brooke :sunny:

I would wait until, at least, one week after the first week of Jan. I went during the last week of Jan and it was the most gorgeous weather I've experienced down there...that is, if you can handle the chill at night. I like a cool nigh though...throw on a jacket and I'm good to go.
