okay so we have decided on disneyworld for october 2018
we want to stay at AoA and i plan on just choosing family suite and letting them chose which we get (each of my kids will want a different theme)
for the dates im looking at its 349 a night, which is fine however i see that for this october they are on promo.
now im wondering if i should book now or just wait until a deal shows up for next year and book then?

what if i book now fully pay then it goes cheaper? can i get refunded the difference or?

travel party will be hubby, myself and 5 kids who then will be 1,3,6,7,9

I booked our rooms (split stay) for this coming week as soon as I knew our dates (early March I think?). Discounts for room only and free dining packages came out at the end of April. I had no problem switching to the lower rate for both my package (even adding on the free dining) and my room only reservations on the Disney website. The package only required a small deposit at booking, I paid in full one month out. And the room only needed a 1 night deposit. So neither requires you to pay in full at booking so that gives a little flexibility in playing with better rates.

The number of rooms that are already booked at rack rate tends to reduce the number of discount rooms that will ever become available, as there is no incentive to discount them if they are selling at rack rate. So everyone has a better chance of getting discounts if more people would refrain from booking at rack rate. The risk of course is that if you wait too long, they could completely sell out of what you want.

If you will go regardless of discounts, I'd book now to make sure you get what you want. If you will only go with a discount, it's probably best to wait and see what (if any) discounts come out for your dates. If you book now and a discount is released, you can have the discount applied to your existing reservation as long as what you have booked is available under that discount. With that said, not all resorts/room types are offered under promos, so sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort/room type as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied.

No real right/wrong answer here, just whatever works with your particular situation. Some of it depends on the criticality of your dates, your chosen resort/room type, and your tolerance for paying rack rate. If you can put a check next to each of those then it's probably a good idea to go ahead and book to secure what you want. You 'may' be able to apply a discount later when they come out if there is discounted room inventory available, but you may not.

On the other hand, if you have some flexibility and/or HAVE to have a discount to make the trip happen, you might want to hold off and then book the second discounts come out.

We're staying there in Sept 2018 - we wanted the Lion King suite so we booked early to ensure we could get it. When I made the reservation, I had spoken to a lovely cast member who advised book what I wanted now and it would be easier to change later if a discount came open.

Thanks everyone
we are very flexible with dates/ resort and such as it is easy for my hubby to take time off work, im a stay at home mom and well my kids i dont mind pulling them out of school for family trips once a year!!
I think i will go ahead and book sooner rather than later that way i can make payments and it wont be such a shock to our bank account haha !!!

As soon as you know the specific time you want to go, I would book. If discounts come out, you can always call and try and apply the discount or switch to a discounted resort if necessary. I do it all the time. I booked my December vacation in February--resort never was discounted and still isn't, but I'm willing to pay full price this time since I really want to stay at POFQ.

I already have our October 2018 trip booked. We are staying at AKL (standard room). I'm guessing they'll sell out before discounts become available, so I went ahead and booked.
