I'm not a gambler! Anyone have an opinion about whether air fares will go up or down for our May 2011 trip?

A friend of mine is going May 21st and she booked her airfare a couple of weeks ago. She got 89 each way and she was happy with that.

We are going to WDW from May 21st to the 28th. I have a free flight with SW so it was worth it for me to book with SW.
The cost was $103 each way but I booked the times we wanted, I could have gotten cheaper rates by going down in the evening and coming home in the morning. We are going to stay in WDW 1 night then on a 4 night Disney cruise and then back to WDW for 2 more nights. I wanted to get in as much Disney park time as possible so I booked going down early and coming back as late as possible.
When travelling with a group I'd rather pay more and get the flight times that I want. When I go solo, I'll chose the cheaper fares because I know I can go at my own pace and I know I'll be going back again soon.

Yeah, time of the day really matters to us, too. We always go down early in the morning to get a day in the parks and then home in the evening, again to get a day in the parks. Prices are always better at other times.

Also, I always book our flights on a Tues./Wed./Thurs./ because the fares always go up for booking on Fridays through Sundays. I will book our airfare this week but today the rates are 89 going and 64 coming. I expect they will be back down to 60 each way on T/W/TH. I think I read that the cheapest day to fly is Wed. to Wed.

Its a sure bet that the cost of your plane tickets will go up or down before May. There's no figuring out what the airline industry uses to determine prices.

The best scheme seems to be to start monitoring prices for your travel days so that you know what is a good price. Then, when you see something that looks particularly low, go ahead and book it.

I like using www.Kayak.com to check the price on several different airlines with one search. You can also signup for regular updates.

Great advice! Thanks!

I bought our tickets for next September last week. We set a price that we would pay and if it hits it then we buy. I know I should wait it out longer but just don't want to risk having to pay more.
