When the hotel doesn't have free breakfast....

I'll have a microwave and a small fridge. What do you suggest I pack from the grocery store?

I'm thinking cereal, milk, spoons and bowls....maybe some frozen breakfast sandwiches. Also some pastries and fruit.

What am I missing? Any great ideas out there? Maybe I'll bring my own toaster, my little girls LOVE toast!

We pack cereal & granola bars, maybe apples. I hit the dollar store for disposable bowls, plastic ware (3 sets) and dish soap. Hit the resort store for milk.
We fly from Chicago, so bringing much more is difficult.

My family likes to pick up a few pastries (okay, mostly dessert type yummies) on our way out of the Disneyland (usually from Jolly Holiday) to enjoy the next morning for breakfast.

Otherwise, I would look into getting things that are easy to prepare and easy to clean up because you'll have to use the bathroom sink to wash anything you want to re-use. The one time we brought breakfast items, we picked up cereal, small containers of milk (the gallon wouldn't fit in the mini-fridge easily), fruits (apples, bananas, oranges), granola bars/breakfast bars, hot pockets (like a breakfast sandwich), and yogurt. Most of the stuff came home because no one wanted to eat those when there were better things available in the parks...

You might want to check with the hotel/motel about the toaster...it can be a fire hazard and you'll need to find somewhere to set it up that won't cause any damage to the surface (depending on how hot it gets), so some might not allow you to use one in the room.

Don't bring appliances with you like a toaster. Get some packaged donuts instead. If anybody eats oatmeal, pack some instant oatmeal in your luggage, too.

Another good item is Hard Boiled Eggs, you can find them at most stores nowadays, pre-cooked and a good source of energy.

Bread and Jam.

If you are a Bacon fan, they do sell pre-cooked bacon that just needs to be heated in the microwave. (And a reminder to pick up a roll of Paper Towels to help with the meal and clean up).

Our last trip for breakfasts for DS we did clementines and pb&j's...not a typical breakfast food but he loved it and could it in the stroller on our walk to the park or in line for security.

We normally do a shopping run while we are there and get pancakes, toaster strudel, or cinnamon toaster sticks.

If your hotel is on Harbor, there are lots of mini-marts and gift shop that sell breakfast foods and snacks. We usually pick up
a small container of milk for coffee. I bring Starbuck's Via packets. I like it better than hotel coffee. We also get individual bottles of juice and whatever everyone wants to eat such as Poptarts, cereal bars, pastries, etc. Some stores even have fruit and yogurt.

When we're not staying at a hotel with free breakfast, our "eat in the room" breakfast for the 4 of us usually consists of the following:
  • DH - 2 packets of apples & cinammon instant oatmeal + a drink like Gatorade
  • me - 1 packet of maple & brown sugar instant oatmeal + some OJ or cranberry juice
  • ODD & YDD - strawberries, a banana, and some chocolate donuts. Oh and some OJ or chocolate milk.
Yep, breakfast of champions. :rotfl2:

My kids hate cereal. I think that they must be born with ramen noodles in their veins because if they could have fancy ramen soup (the kind made from scratch in awesome Japanese restaurants), they'd have that and only that for breakfast every morning. My kids also detest breakfast sandwiches and any kind of egg - fried, poached, scrambled, you name it...if it comes in egg form, they act like they are doing to die from egg contamination. LOL!

We always drive to DL. So I usually try to pack the dry goods w/us in the car. But we are usually spending a couple of days before DL with relatives elsewhere in So Cal, so I try to hit up a grocery store before we get to Anaheim and that's where I load up on the perishables. So for a 4-day DL trip with 4 breakfasts, I'd get:
  • 2-3 bunches of bananas
  • 2-3 containers of strawberries. or 2 of strawberries and some grapes
  • donuts
  • single serving containers of OJ or choc milk
  • about a dozen Gatorades - DH drinks a lot of liquids when we go to DL!
If we were flying, I'd hire one of those car services that includes a stop at a grocery store and load up that way. Or I'd hire a taxi or Uber to take me. Last resort would be to order online from Vons and have it delivered to the hotel...that option is the most expensive choice, but most convenient.

we get a cut-up fruit tray, a bag of apple slices. bananas. small individual wrapped cheese. muffins or cinnimon buns. yogurt. bread and Pb&jam.

If our hotel doesn't already have one, we bring our toaster and have bagels and cream cheese. We try to stay at hotels with at least mini fridges. Some mini-fridge configurations are problematic, though.

My kids consider it a major part of the vacation when we bring along packages of powdered sugar and chocolate donuts. Serve it up with milk and they're super happy. Not really nutritious, but hey, it's vacation.

For me, I'll eat a granola bar, a banana, and then have a coffee - which I don't drink often but for some reason it makes me feel full for hours.

quesdeas full of shredded cheese and what ever meat is on sale at the Wal-mart down the road. last time it was shredded pork. soup that is now found in the foil micro wave packets. Also in the frozen are high quality Asian noodle mixes. All of this great breakfast. easy to make, smells great and I have no problem with non- breakfast folks to eat on the second morning. nobody wants to eat the first morning, but by evening everyone is hungry, and the next morning they eat breakfast.

then snack during the day it is the granola bars and cheese sticks. McD for lunch, then back to room for milk and cereal for nap.

dinner is frozen entries and bags and bags of popcorn. And fruit. What I find difficult is non-breakfast eaters to shower, dress and eat.

We usually have cereal (we let the girls get something they don't usually have at home - like Fruity Pebbles), milk, yogurt and bananas. We also sometimes get bread, jelly and cashew butter for sandwiches for those non-breakfast folks to eat on the go mid-morning. We also get bowls, spoons and ziplocs.

Last night we bought cereal and milk. Our hotel did have pastries and stuff so we did eat those some days too.

On our next trip, we are thinking about getting a cheap toaster at Target (which is where we also get our groceries) since toast is one of the few things our son will eat for breakfast. Oh...and yogurt.
