When should we upgrade our tickets to AP?

Hubby and I will be going to WDW at the end of September on the free dining with 9 day park hoppers. We are considering changing our 9 day tickets to Annual passes when we get there. When is the best time to upgrade our tickets for the most value?

The best time to do the upgrade is as quickly as possible.

Whenever you do an upgrade to an AP, the expiration date is one year from the date of first use of the ticket you have upgraded from, so you don't get any extra days by delaying. And you get all the AP benefits immediately.

Thanks for the info. Thought I had read somewhere that if we upgraded at the end of our stay we would be able to use our tickets all week and upgrade at the end for the most value and a later expiration date. With the early exp. date, it may not work with our 2012 vacation plans.

The only problem we had was that when we upgraded to APs with free dining on our tickets, the CM didn't know how to separate the dining credits from the park tickets. Because of this, we waited until the end of the trip and still lost out on some snacks we were planning to use.

I agree with CheshireFigment, that the best time to upgrade is as soon as you get there because then you can take advantage of the AP benefits during your trip. The expiration date is based on the first date you used the ticket you are upgrading.

However, as the PP indicated, there have been some problems with upgrading tickets that have room reservation and dining (free or paid) information attached. Before you start the process it is best to know how many credits you have (in each category) and the details of your resort stay. If you have any problems, go back to your hotel and ask them to help straighten out the issue.
