MIL saw me today. Haven't seen her since I started trying to lose and since that time I've lost 14 pounds. Not a word from her! Would this irritate you? I think she wants me to be fat.

Could 14 pounds lost on a 4'11" person not show?!?

I have family that never comments if they think I've lost weight - but thankfully they don't comment if I gain either;)

As for the weight showing or not showing - it really depends where you lose it - I lose it in my face and back first - then it kind starts to leave my midsection - so I can lose 10lbs and honestly except for my face I really don't look to much different. However I can feel a difference in my clothes.

Give it time everyone will notice soon enough!::yes::

looks like we are the same height. Believe me it shows. Everytime I go to church, people are like you look so good and you've lost so much weight. At first I was offended. It was like was I that fat before??? Then I just started looking in the mirror and realized nah I just look that good. Don't worry about your MIL. If I saw my MIL she would do the same thing to me. Just go look in the mirror and say, I really look good, shrug it off as her loss and just remind yourself how beautiful you really are.

We have several of us shorties on the board, I see! I'm 5' and 3/4", so not quite 5'1" and I can so relate to people not commenting on your lose. I would say it wasn't until I had lost about 20 pounds that people started noticing. Heck, I've lost close to 55 pounds and there are people that still don't comment. One of my friends that I have lunch with once every other week was raving to my sister about how much weight I've lost and how impressed she is that I bring my lunch every day and how wonderful I look. I almost fell over with surprise. She has never said one word to me.

Don't worry, I'm sure it shows. Some people consider it impolite to comment on others weight (loss or gain) so maybe that's your MIL. You keep on doing what you are doing to look and feel good for you! :)

Not only is this EXACTLY what my Mom told me  but, we're the same height as well! LOL I have lost 30+ lbs and NO ONE, I said NO ONE has mentioned ONE WORD to me about weight loss. ONLY my family members that know I'm dieting so, that doesn't count, imo. Talk about discouraging! But, thank goodness for this board!!! :sunny:

As for my MIL, I'm pretty sure when she sees me next, she WILL say something. Maybe I need to pay her a visit? :p

Come HERE for support! We all KNOW what it means to lose!!!! :sunny:

Havent seen MIL since I lost 45lbs! Im also part of the short club - 5'2" - went from 165 to 120 - waiting to see if she has anything to say

Hey this is cool so many shorties here i am only 5'
so i understand this to very few people will say anything to me and i have lost over 20lbs

My DH and my mom but they know i'm dieting so kinda not fair

but i walked into a store the other day and the clerk ther who i have know for years says hey did you lose some wieght so
people will start noticing

but that is one reson i love it here you guys don't have to see me to support me I love it here:D

Another shortie here! :hyper: I'm 5' 1.5". I had lost 50+lbs before anyone said anything to me about losing weight. Personally I prefer that people don't make a big deal about it, so I was quite happy when no-one mentioned it ::yes::

Wow! I had no idea there were so many of us shorties around!! I'm 5' also and people didn't start to comment on my losses until around 30 pounds. Even after 65 pounds, there are still people who don't say anything, so I think it must be true that some folks think it is impolite to say anything.

In fact, the last time I was at my doctor's office I had lost around 40-45 pounds and neither the nurse who weighed me or my doctor noticed. What's up with that?! You would think they would notice, even if no one else did!! (Can you tell that it kind of pushed my buttons that they didn't? :p )

Hang in there, Shan! If the new thinner you doesn't suit your MIL, too bad!! :teeth:

Guess we need to start a shortie thread?

It does stink being short. Even a few pounds really show. Too bad it is always more than a few pounds for me, too! ;)

I can bet people talk about me. Like - wonder if she'll be fat or thin when we see her next time? I'm that rollercoaster and cause I'm so short it really shows.

I'm hoping this time I can control it. I'm really enjoying walking. Hopefully, this will keep me somewhat in check. We'll see...
Usually once I eat that first piece of bread I gain like five pounds in a day!

I just thought I'd post that sometimes I think people are a little hesitant to comment on weight because they don't want to stick their foot in their mouth. Keep up the hard work though and don't let it get you discouraged.

I will add to the list that I agee with people being hesitant to talk about gain/loss. Yes, they notice but sometimes I have found that it is upsetting to those involved to keep hearing either way so nothing is said.

You just keep on doing the good thang!

Some people think it's rude to mention that someone looks like they have lost weight. My best friend is like that, but I love her anyway :)

Another short poster here. 5 2.5 inches. Boy do I wish I was at least 5ft 5 in. I always say that every pound makes a difference on me since I am short!

Im a tall one 5'8 and My MIL hasnt said 1 word and I have lost 30 lbs in 4 mths...........But i try not to see her that much so maybe she hasnt seen me LOL princess:

Reminds me of the saying: "I'm not overweight, I'm undertall".

I'm 5' 3" in heels, lol, and by last Thanksgiving I had lost 90 lbs. I had last seen DH's extended family in May, right before my surgery. They saw me at my fattest, and then in Thanksgiving saw me so much lighter. NOT ONE OF THEM SAID A WORD! I found out later that his aunt had told everyone not to mention it to me because she was afraid I'd be embarrassed. It was too funny seeing their reactions and then watching them bite their tongues. I was confused until I found out what had been said. Strange family!

Well, I went to my hubby's cousin's wedding last night and not one word from anyone. Oh, well!

As a side note, I avoided the cake and stayed on Atkins! I sure was tempted by that cake...........

My parents whom I've only seen once since starting WW on 2/14/04 & who don't know I'm trying to lose weight, just stopped by for a visit. The whole morning before they arrived DH kept going on & on "sweetie you are looking so slim", "kids, isn't your mom getting skinny", "if you parents don't notice your weight loss then somethings wrong with them"...yada yada yada. Anyways my parents just left without even one word on my loss:rolleyes: I was kinda hoping that would be the case so I could keep WW a secret for now but on the other hand I was kinda bummed. Oh well maybe it will take another 20 lb loss but eventually they'll notice I guess. BTW my dad is the first to mention it if I've gained weight:(
