When people ask you to sponsor them?

First let me say I'm a big supporter of charities. I do a local cancer run every year. I also sponsor another friend who does a different charity run. Well, this year, I have been asked by five different people to sponsor them in various charities. As much as I'd love to, it really hurts to sponsor everyone. So far, I haven't been able to bring myself to say no to anyone....and dh is NOT pleased. We usually set aside a certain amount each year for charity, but this year we've surpassed this amount by A LOT. What would you do?

<font color=navy>I'd be honest and tell them to get you next year when you start over again, and that you've hit your quota for this year ... and wish them luck. :)

I work in a place where I get asked a lot. I usually say that I have already committed to sponsoring someone but here is a dollar or two for your charity anyway; that is if you want to give to that charity. There was one employee whose daughter died of CF so I always donate a fixed amount at the time I am asked. When a charity affects someone personally and so directly, I can't say no.

I usually tell the person that I will give them a dollar or two but that I have a set amount I already donate to charity each year. I wish I could donate to them all but unfortunately, I can't.

I generally donate a small amount whenever I'm asked, but only if I can donate a flat sum. The "per/mile" type sponsorships I won't do. If I can donate $5 to anyone that asks, it doesn't hurt much and it's a tax deduction at the end of the year.

Two words should suffice -- "Sorry, no." Be sure to smile politely when saying them.

Pull a "George for Seinfeld" and tell them you made a contribution in their name to the "Human Fund". ;)
