When it's all said & done, what will your kids really remember about the world?

My DS's remember the things I forget, like Dale stealing a muffin off of his plate at Cape May and pretending to eat it. He also remembers decorating a cupcake with Goofy and dropping it on the floor as he walked away (at Chef Mickey's) but doesn't remember the huge fuss Pooh and Friends made over him when he was Chef of the Day at CP. Go figure!

It is odd the things that kids make as the memory as compared to what we think will be the memory. I have no idea how my kids will remember it. We are doing a couple of character related things. We are seeing La Nouba (my boys are over the moon about cirque related stuff) and other than that we are trying to just go with it. I mean we have our days planned as far the the parks and we have adr's for places but i'm trying to ''go with the flow'' as to when we get there and seeing what becomes the fun. KWIM.

We are going to keep a journal nightly, just take a few minutes to record our memories. I'll add a few pictures after we are home. I hope they treasure this time together and it does create lasting memories for them.

DS was 5 when we took him the first time. He is now 17. I asked him the other day what he remembers about our trip. His most vivid memory is eating at Sci-FI. He even remembers sitting in a pink car. He remembers making me sick by how fast he spun the teacups.He also remembers riding the Epcot "ball" 17 times. He also remembers playing chase with Captain Hook to get his autograph book back. This was in the day when the charaters just wandered around the park and you never knew who was around the next corner. He has other memories but those are the 3 that stand out the most from our discussion. We leave in 25 days and he wants to break his riding record and he wants to eat at SciFI. He thinks he will challenge Captain Hook to a duel this time. I am not riding the teacups this time.

We leave in 60 days for our first WDW vacation. DS9 cannot wait to go eat at Sci-Fi. I think I am actually more excited than he is. DH went back in the 80's when he was about 6 or so and he doesn't remember much. I'm hoping all the hype I've been setting for DS is worth it. I want this to be a trip he will never forget.

It is funny how kids will focus on the totally off memories of things you do. I kind of wonder what my DD will end up recalling as her favorite memories of our trips to Disney. Will it really be all the things I plan out, like princess meals and tea parties? Or will it end up being something I won't expect?

I wonder this all the time myself. I guess its my greatest hope that when my kids think back about all the time we've spent together in WDW as a family they will remember how they felt more than what we did. I hope they will remember that they are loved above all else in this world. I hope that they will remember that family time is worth the effort. I hope that they will remember being happy. This is why I go.

Oh, I remeber my first trip to WDW! I only remember two things, the first is that my Grandma brought bananas in her purse and kept forcing them on all of us I guess she thought we would all starve, my Mom just wanted to buy us Mickey bars. My Mom still talks about this because it made her kinda mad. Second memory, this is funny, I was screaming because I didn't want to go on HM and the Stretching room terrified my so much they had to take me out the back door! Kinda funny now, not so funny then.

My kids have been going to Disney since they were very small. Ds's first trip we have on film, he was 5 months old and still watches the video and talks about it. DD's first trip to WDW when she was 20 months is not on film because I lost the camera battery but she loves to look at the pictures of herself dressed as Cinderella for MNSSHP. DS always talk about WDW, when we went to DL this summer he looked at the castle and said that is not the right castle, he was very disappointed (DS was 4 at the time). I just asked DD (2 yo) what she remembers and she said something about Grandpa, monsters,and Tigger. I think she means that Grandpa was scared on the Matterhorn because of the "monster". And of course she remembers Tigger. WOW! That was a long post, sorry!

I was 4 on my first trip (overnight trip). Went with my mom and my grandparents. I remember Dumbo from the park but mostly I remember how awesome I thought the Contemporary was...the monorail going through it, the pool, the HUGE bigger than life game room was my favorite (my grandfather showing me all the things that happen when you shoot things in the shooting gallery).

We live close by and go often so I don't really know what my DD's first memories are.

DD is 3 she has been 4 times, starting at 11mnths. She very distinctly remembers the yo ho (Pirates of the Carribean) ride being closed this past June when we were there. She tells everyone that is her favorite ride! She talks about the doggie in it. Go figure! We did the princess dinner, chef Mickeys, LTT with characters. She also remembers she made Capt. Hook "cry like a baby" (she called him a codfish), and that she hugged him and he stopped crying.
As for me, I was 19 when I first went. It was my honeymoon.

There are times when all the family is in the car and we get stuck in traffic somewhere that the 3 year old in the back seat starts singing...It's a small world after all

Just last week my kids gave me a turn by turn rendition of Splash Mountain. This is DD's favorite since she wasn't able to ride it the first time. She made a point of telling the CM's that she was now tall enough!

Also, my kids still talk about the fact that they have seen Mickey twice once at MK and once at DL, but still do not have his autograph. First time we saw Mickey before we got the book, and then we were only at DL for a day so we really weren't planning on doing the characters. That is now their main reason for a new trip is to get the elusive Mickey

Unfortunately my DD who was 7 on her first trip remembers having to leave early because a hurricane was coming! Our flight was cancelled and we had to rent a car and drive home (to Ontario, Canada)! She was so upset that we had to leave a day early. The ride home was a nightmare. It seemed everyone in Florida was leaving the state with us.
Fortunately we have been back twice since then and she has lots of good memories which outweigh the bad. This summer she became the roller coaster queen! She loves Rock 'n' Rollercoaster. I did not but that's another story.

My oldest DD was 2.5 on her first trip to the World, and what she seems to remeber most is trying to give her baby sister away to Lilo! We were at MGM, and they got their picture taken with Lilo & Stitch. My youngest DD was only 7 months, and Lilo held her while the picture was taken. After the picture, she made it quite clear that she didn't want to give her back. So I asked DD1 if Lilo could keep her baby sister, thinking she would say no (she had a fit just leaving her at Gramma's for the day when we went to see the Wiggles) but instead she was perfectly willing to let Lilo have her! The girls are 4 and 2 now, and she still talks about it. We're going again in a little over 3 weeks, so we'll see what they remember most this time around.

ds9 went to WDW first time at the age of 3. He still talks about the 1st time he met Captn Hook, whom he was crazy about at the time, and that CH was picking his nose. It was so funny! He's been back about 7 times but that stands out most in his memories.

I went once as a child at 6. I remember my mother crying & vomiting on the plane while we flew through a thunderstorm. We kept asking her, "Mommy, what happens if we get hit by lightning?" I guess we weren't helping much.
Also the hood of our rental car flipped up while driving and smashed the windshield and my dad had to use his belt to hold it back down til we could get another car. I remember needing tickets for each ride and going on Dumbo. I remember the Doom Buggies and hitch-hikers at the end. We were on this underwater ride 2,000 (or 20,000) Leagues Under the Sea on New Year's Eve when it struck midnight turning 1974. Everyone counted down the last 10 secs. and then they all clapped/whistled,etc. The whole thing shook so much I thought it would spring a leak and we'd all drown. At the time I thought we were really far down below the water but lately I heard it didn't go very deep at all. Funny how things seem so huge to a child. It was a big deal to stay up past midnight.

i find myself remembering things abt disney because of traditions done every yr since i was little going there...
even the really little simple routine things are special and it wouldnt be the same if it wasnt with my family
example: the first night we get there we always take it easy enjoy the hotel and go for a monorail ride and then to a buffet usually 1900 park fare...the second day is always magic kingdom
another example would be the orange swirl ice cream(i forgot the name ) we always get right outside of the tiki birds
