we are thinking of bidding on priceline for the DTD Hilton for a May 07 vacation. even though i know nothing is gauranteed, when would be a good time to start bidding for this? how long is too long to wait?

You don't bid for a certain hotel on Priceline, just a particular star level. According to the info others post at www.biddingfortravel.com - there are currently 7 hotels in the "resort" category in the WDW area, and even if you are successful, you might not get the Hilton.

I personally think it's too early to lock yourself into a non-refundable hotel reservation - even if you can reserve your hotel now. Your dates could change down the road, or there could be a great deal at a WDW resort that you want to take advantage of.

I agree with NancyIL--read the info on www.biddingfortravel.com to see what the patterns are, but remember that you could get any resort in the specified area. I usually book a refundable backup and then bid closer to the departure date. I have also noticed that last minute ressies (days before) can be successful. Good luck!

with priceline I do it a few days before I leave.

I intend to do it this March, 2007 - have a day I need inbetween SVR and OKW.

less I get a great deal on a value.

I wouldn't bid until my plans were set in concrete. I'd probably bid a few weeks, maybe a month, before my trip. You can basically bid for the Hilton. A low bid for resort will either give you the Hilton or nothing. Everything is subject to change. A hotel may decide to offer low rates and a new hotel could come up.

Like everyone else said the closer to your trip the better. As the travel dates get closer more hotels are likely to release inventory to priceline. Which will increase your odds of getting a better deal.
