Haha, million dollar question right? But what is their tentative hopeful open time frame, and what do you think is the realistic opening time frame? Looks like our trip is going to be June 13-25, 2017, so I'm wondering what the chances are it'll be open. If we'd be better off waiting until August 12-24.

Sometime in 2017, maybe. It all depends on how far they stay behind schedule and budget. Optimistically? 2018.

Announced to public in 2011,,,,construction started in Jan 2014 and they originally said it would take 3-5 years to complete.
I am "guessing" late end of 2018.
Original cost estimate was 500 million dollars.

P.S.
I know the "Floating Mountains" are under construction but I haven't heard if these projects have started? maybe they have?
Quoted from Wikipedia
"At Disney's 2015 D23 Expo Walt Disney Imagineering confirmed two major attractions."
  • AVATAR Flight of Passage, a flying simulator attraction, where guests will learn to fly with a mountain Banshee.
  • Na'Vi River Journey, a boat ride attraction showcasing the native fauna and flora of Pandora, that will include Audio Animatronics and small drops.
Note: James Cameron's Avatar "2" was suppose to be released in Dec 2017 however there are rumours that it will now be late 2018. (Which Disney may or may not attempt to coincide with the opening of Pandora).

You'd think that with the black eye they've received over the ROL debacle, they'd want to have at least parts of it open on or before their original schedule (sometime in 17). I bet parts will be open by your trip.

And here I thought you were talking about a store for the charm bracelets. Whoops

I think you're overestimating the "black eye" Disney received for ROL. No one booked Disney for ROL. The April 22nd date came a month and a half beforehand.

Considering the timeframe for Pandora was 3 to 5 years, 2017 would be at the early end.

We are going in early April 2017 and part of me hopes it won't be open yet. We aren't interested in Avatar at all, and don't want Animal Kingdom packed every day

For those thinking it was Pandora the jewelry store, there already is a Pandora store open and its in MK

Can we not refer to the shop as Pandora, and the other thing as Smurf Land?

ditto
PS. 'Town Center' shops like Pandora will begin to roll out May 15th per Disney Parks Blog
I was just in Disney Springs a few days ago and didn't see any signage referring to that Town Center. Where will it be in terms of placement in the area?

Everything involving Avatar has been a cluster**** from announcement to inception. And I'm including the movies in that statement. I'm going to guess 2018 - and that's being generous.
