Anyone who says it is too long either (a) has never been on a vacation of any length or (b) is raving jealous.
My dad and I (he semi-retired and me self-employed) discovered the fine art of vacationing about 5 years. First it was one week stays in Disney and Williamsburg. We took 2 vacations a year, then 3, then 4. Next it was a 2 week stay in Disney last October, following a very hectic family mega trip in March of one week.
The one week is just not enough for us to enjoy Orlando anymore. We like having half days, restful mornings or evenings, time by the pool and meandering through the parks, resort hopping for meals and whatnot.
Finally convinced my siblings (all married with kids) to try an extended stay in Williamsburg this year. One brother split the time with the beach for two weeks. They packed up the suburban, 4 kids, a ton of food and settled in for a long vacation. Best one they ever took. In a couple weeks we'll be doing something similar in a 10 day cruise to the Caribbean (with his family of 6).
I have another brother who can't envision a cruise longer than 5 days or trip longer than 7. Crying shame as his kids are young enough (and he's also self employed) to allow them the extended travel time.
Enjoy Florida while the rest of us freeze. I'd love to sneak out in February for a quick trip but other arrangements next year are interfering. I have 4 trips already in the planning Spring through late Fall. Oh and I have another 12 day trip planned for December this year. It'll wreak havoc with my usual Christmas plans, but it may just get me through the long, cold winter.
