When is day light savings?

Well at least you all know what your time zone IS. Our county has never changed their clocks until this Spring,we've always been EST. Our county commissioners put in for a Central Time zone request to DOT last fall ( claiming a bunch of lies to get our time switched to Central) . The residents had a COW so the commisioners decided to petition DOT to change our time Zone back to Eastern Time.

DOT has called the commissioners out on the lies and said that they won't be making a final decision until the commissioners account for every lie...which will make it next Spring before we get an official ruling. In the meantime all government offices and some business' are operating on Central Time and our schools,Hospital and most factories are operating on Eastern time. Basically everyone is on whatever time zone they want. :furious:

Yes, I agree. It gets dark at around 5:30 here. I hate this time of year. :(

I'm a hater too!!!

Have I been in the twilight zone? I could have sworn they were talking about switching it this year until the second or third week in November.
That starts next year. Daylight Saving Time will begin Sunday, March 11, 2007, and will end Sunday, November 4, 2007.
On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday of March and end the first Sunday of November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to revert the Daylight Saving Time back to the 2005 time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.

And something I didn't know...
The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time.

Saving is used here as a verbal adjective (a participle). It modifies time and tells us more about its nature; namely, that it is characterized by the activity of saving daylight. It is a saving daylight kind of time. Similar examples would be dog walking time or book reading time. Since saving is a verb describing a single type of activity, the form is singular.

Nevertheless, many people feel the word savings (with an 's') flows more mellifluously off the tongue. Daylight Savings Time is also in common usage, and can be found in dictionaries.

Adding to the confusion is that the phrase Daylight Saving Time is inaccurate, since no daylight is actually saved. Daylight Shifting Time would be better, but it is not as politically desirable.
Just a little bit of information for the grammatically correct! ;)

I love Ben Franklin, but this certainly wasn't one of his better ideas. It would make more sense for the farmers to adjust their lives to what best suits than force this crap on the rest of us.

It's not the farmers - it's the golfers. Farmers don't particularly like it. It's one of the reasons Indiana didn't observe it for years until last year.

I thought that was a GIVEN!! :rotfl:

I wake up everyday at 4am, so it's dark anyway. I like waking up but not GETTING up. The time falling back gives me an extra hour in the morning. I'm also home by 4pm so I beat the dark ride home.

Asking why someone celebrates is strange to me. Isn't everything relative? I celebrate my extra hour, you may celebrate something I could care less about but I'd never ask you unless it would harm someone...?

There ya GO again, Robin, thinking everyone does what YOU do! stupid stupid stupid stupid.....

It's my favorite "holiday" ! :cheer2:

Why are people celebrating? It will get darker earlier. :confused3 Maybe you are getting confused because we are moving into Standard Time, NOT Daylight Savings Time.
Have you ever seen kids waiting for the school bus at 7 AM, when it's still dark out? While I don't "celebrate" the change back to Standard Time, I welcome the light early in the day. (do people really like getting up, showering, leaving for work in the dark?)

Not only is the extra hour fun....I am tired of waking up in the dark. The light will also help my kids get going faster in the morning.

My husband celebrates because it means it's that much closer to snow for him. He loves to go snowmobiling.

A lot of it has to do with what end of the time zone you are in. Here in Boston, it is light in the morning by 7:00 but it gets dark too early, especially when Standard time begins. My sister, who lives in Michigan, and is at the other end of the Eastern Time zone complains that it's too dark in the morning, but then they have daylight much later than we do. Personally, I prefer Daylight Saving Time. :)

The only thing I'm happy about besides that extra hour of sleep is that it won't be so dark when I leave for work and when my kids have to wait for the bus. Of course it will be dark when I get home, which makes me dread the winter time.

wow..got me excited..
I get off a cruise ship on March 11, 2007 and have to fly home..and now have to worry about time-zone ..changes

UGH

DS14 just walked out the door to catch the bus and it is SO dark out still, looks like it is midnight. It will be nice to set the clocks back so it isn't so dark in the morning.
