When is college spring break in Daytona??

Hi all,
I am getting sick of the snow/ice and winter here in the northeast. We are thinking of going down to Daytona either the 1st or 2nd week of March. I am just wondering is that "College Spring Break" time down there? I really don't want to be there at that time.

My husband looked into the temps and he said that they were high 70's, so we could lay out by the pool and still get a tan hopefully. I wouldn't be going into the ocean.

What are your thoughts??

I am sad to say that 'Spring Break' time in Daytona runs for about 6 weeks...roughly from the first of March through the middle of April (sometimes as late as Easter, depending on when Easter falls).

If you feel the need to head to the beach then, I suggest a less 'Spring Break' oriented beach. My fav is St. Pete Beach (an area called Pass-A-Grille). You don't get many spring breakers there, mostly older snow birds. And the water is warmer on this side of Fla than on the Daytona side.

As a local I need to mention that Daytona's "Bike Week" runs March 4-13th this year - and over those 10 days 500,000+ people are expected for the 70th anniversary. If you love motorcycles you'll be in heaven, otherwise

Who knows, spring break always used to be the week before or the week after Easter. Here the public schools have started taking President's day week off, plus the week before Easter. Not sure which is spring break, but I know there a lot of kids headed to Disneyland the week of President's day.

Here is a link that Panama City Beach puts out each year. It lists the major universities and when their spring break lies. Granted they aren't all going to Daytona but will give you an idea of when the college kids will be out.

Notice that a lot of the Canadian universities start spring break in February!
