My sister and I are planning to take the kids in June next year. We can go anytime after June 2nd and we want to stay 4-5 days. When do you think would be a good time to go? If we go to early will things be closed? And we don't wanna go to late that it's crowded. We went the last week in June this year and it was pretty crowded, but bearable.

I want to start planning but don't know what dates I should start to look at first. Is the beginning of June considered off season?

Thanks for your advice and imput. I'm so excited I can't wait!! And it's all the kids keep talking about and it's not for another 7 months :) LOL

June 1-18th is not too bad, with the crowds picking up the later you get within that time period. The problems with going during this time:
-Shorter park hours
-Related to that, some nights are Grad Nights and DL closes VERY early (like 6PM)
-Not everything may be running, especially earlier in the month
-Entertainment isn't running in full swing (Electric Parade isn't running, fireworks/Fantasmic/World of Color might be just on weekends)

So should you go June 19th-30th?? Well, here we have the issue of crowds. The parks are going to be PACKED on the 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd because none of the 800,000 Annual Pass holders are blocked out. You can bet your bottom dollar that TONS of them will be rushing to the parks to get a quick visit before their passes get blocked out.

However, I would recommend going in late June after the APs are blocked out. Around the 22nd-27th should be a good time because the two So Cal passes are blocked out from Wednesday-Saturday. Take advantage of those 4 days because they should be less crowded. You also have long park hours (8AM-12AM), all rides operating, and full entertainment. :thumbsup2

Crowds are not a big deal if you have tips from the DIS and you go into your trip with some kind of game plan, even if it is very loose.

Thank you so much DLR29. Great tips and advice. We took DD2 for the 1st time last fune and we were there the 23-26 so that was right around your time period. DD had difficulties with the time difference and wouldn't wake up early enough to get to the park early, we didn't even get to use our 1 MM, but we made it up at the end of the day and closed the park every day. Hopefully this time around we can do it early, on our last day we did make it there around 9:30 and it was so empty, we were so bummed we had missed out on all the other days. We knew the rule about getting there early, but DD just couldn't do it. It will be my niece's (4) first time and my DD's and nephew's(10) 2nd time so I just want it to magical for them. I'm so excited!!! Thanks again!

I was going to recommend exactly what DLR29 said - that you go after the Annual Passholder blackout period starts. :)

One thing to keep in mind, in 2010 the upper-tier SoCal AP is NOT blocked out from June 27 (Sunday) to July 2 (Friday). :)

^ Yes, I agree, another great post from DLR29. :thumbsup2

Although I have a couple of nitpicks... :goodvibes

FWIW, the two So Cal passes are also blocked out Wednesday-Saturday (June 16 to June 19).

FWIW, Fantasmic might be dark from Jan. 4 to June 10, 2010.

On Grad Nights, DL usually closes at 9:00pm and DCA closes at 6:00pm.

Hey SSC, I must have missed the memo. Of course F! cannot re-open until after the ROA refurb, but that is supposed to be done by early May. What gives on F! opening in June?

I had heard this too. They were going to wait until the Summer Kick off to restart F!

It's not official, but "mrfantasmic" (a CM, see post #6) and Darkbeer (link) have posted about F! opening in mid-June, 2010.

Here are the direct quotes:
"Fantasmic! will also require a full re-mount after such a long downtime. Much of the rehearsals can take place in rehearsal halls, but the full river rehearsals can take weeks, especially testing and adjusting any new showpieces (nothing set in stone, btw).

Expect Fantasmic! to return as part of Summer Nightastic (yep) in June."

" Yes, Fantasmic! last day is currently January 3rd, ... the Maintenance staff are claiming the need to start on [January] 4th to have Fantasmic! back up and running by mid-June. ..."

Go figure on these dates, my b'day is the 14th and my nieces is the 21st :) LOL My daughters is the 7th, but it sounds like that is too early. Maybe we try the 21st as our first day being that it's her actual b'day, but since she's only 4 will it really matter, hummm. It wouldn't be good to start our trip on a packed day. Gotta think about this one.

We missed F! in June, I kept forgetting about it every night, don't ask me how. So I'd like to see it this time around.

Thanks all for your advice!!
