When/how do you make special room requests?

Hi! We booked our first trip to Disney World for October for CBR with FD. I booked it myself online. I had been trying for a few days to get the FD. When it popped up that it was available, I quickly booked it. But I didn't pay attention if there was a space for any special requests. We have a water view room. I know generally the buildings I would like to be in. Do I do that now? Closer to time? Do I call the main Disney number? Thanks so much!
 
Call the main reservation line and add the request to your reservation. That can be done anytime from the day you book up until 4-5 days prior to your arrival.
 
I would just call customer service and ask them to note your special requests on your reservation. Obviously nothing is guaranteed though.
 
You didn't miss anything when you booked. There is a special request section when you book online but it's for "handicapped accessible" or "crib"...not the special requests that you make later.

I would just call 1 407 wdisney and get them to add the requests to the reservation. You can do this anytime.
 
Great! Thanks for your fast responses! What are some other things people request besides room location? I didn't want to overlook something. Also we will be celebrating my daughter's birthday while we are there. Do I give them that info when I call or just when I check in? Thank you!
 
I don't know if it's just me, but every time I request a room location over the phone, it's ignored, but then easily accommodated when I check in. On a trip with friends to Pop Century, we both called and requested rooms in Building 2 and to be close to each other, since we were splitting a rental car. They put us in buildings 6 and 8, I had to laugh, they couldn't have put us further away from Building 2 and each other if they tried. But they were able to move my friends so they were also in Building 6.

On last trip, called 2 days before and asked to be near my parents, who had already checked in at CSR, I was able to give them the actual room number in 7B and their confirmation number. When we checked in, CM initially put us on other side of CSR. When I mentioned my request, she said there was no request on our reservation, but was able to move us to 7B.

I know requests aren't guaranteed, but they shouldn't be ignored or lost. CMs had no problem giving us what we wanted at check-in.
