When gas hit $5, what will you do?

Add a K&M air and oil filter and you will get 10%+ in gas mileage increase.

I thought about that for the Jeep, but some guys reported dust getting through the air filter. My brother just put a K&N oil filter on his Jeep. Thanks for reminding me to check my air filter on my vehicles, it's been a while :)

I'll definitely cry, and hope that my BF continues to work in the same building I do so he can help with the gas cost.

So, yep, high gas prices suck. I knew that when I upgraded my Jeep, I knew it when I paid more to get a Tahoe and I sure as heck know it when I fill them both up. You're not having to pay to fill my tank, so my advice is not to worry too much about what I'm doing, just watch out for yourself, I have things taken care :thumbsup2

Yes, but dwindling oil supplies are not just your problem, nor are they just mine. Other people's choices affect us all.

Sure!!! And tape a magnet to the fuel line and you save another 10% :rotfl2:

I try not to be too judgmental where others are concerned. I am just tossing some food for thought out there with what I'm about to say.

People have bashed Bush to death saying this war is about oil. If Americans didn't consume so much, our government might not need to do all they can to make sure we have the supply that we need. I'm certainly not suggesting that I believe the war is about oil, but I am aware that many do. If you're one of those, you can look at the blood shed from our soldier as the price we must pay for our luxuries. Coming at it from that prospective, is it too high a price to pay?

I'm not pointing any fingers by any means. As I said, maybe just something to think about when you're out on the lot about to make your next purchase.

You know what really gets to me in threads like this? And it's not that I've seen it here, but it's inevitable in the SUV and/or gas threads. You always have someone coming on gloating -- and maybe they don't mean to gloat, or maybe they don't realize they're coming off that way -- but they display the attitude that everything's just fine and dandy because they can afford that Hummer and it's all just peachy keen with them; hey just let those gas prices SOAR!!! It's all good!

This is serious for some people. Where I live, people aren't going to be able to go to work when they're making minimum wage and driving whatever old car they can get their hands on. I'm willing to bet we have some people on the DIS who are seriously worried about gas prices, and no, not everyone here is planning trip after trip to WDW, but are very overburdened right now.

It reminds me of the "let them eat cake" attitude.

It's not that anyone should be ashamed to have money, but really. If you're going to be so blatant about it, why don't you just come right out and tell us what your salary is. Either way, it's just tacky.

And this post was better?? Why?

It wasn't the least bit polite which IMHO makes it just as tacky.... Jealousy does not become you.

FYI. I drive a very fuel efficient car and actually take public transport to work.

Do you even know what I am talking about????? Why the stupid fuel line remark. Maybe Germany does not have what I am refering to!!!

Just because someone speaks out against SUVs (or, in this case, owners who brag about their SUVs as if driving one is really cool and special), does not mean that person is jealous.

If you can afford the gas then why would you not do you student teaching because of the gas price (from a previous post on this thread)? You have invested so much time and money in your education, why not do the last step?

I talked about not doing the student teaching out of just being frustrated and emotional. Rationally, I will do my student teaching, but knowing it's going to cost a lot of money to drive 60 miles round trip five days a week with no income when there's a perfectly good school 2 miles from my house that they won't place me in. I'm just stressed. I have 2 weeks left to go until I'm done with my classroom learning and I seriously just want to run away.

So forgive me for being emotional and a tad irrational.

At any rate, my other rant wasn't about what I can afford, but being sensitive to others who will have a serious struggle. And again, it's not happening in this thread.

I'm jealous how?

I do drive an SUV and we don't HAVE public transportation!

I'm sorry, but it really does get to me when people take the attitude that "Woohoo! let those gas prices rise because I'm good to go!"

I drive a Jeep Wrangler with a 2" suspension lift and 1" body lift with 32" tires, driving a Jeep is already like driving a brick wall, no aero dynamics. Add the larger tires means I get about 14 mpg. Yes, I did this on purpose, and I drive about 46 miles a day round trip to work in stop and go traffic. Trust me, the off road capabilities have come in handy more than once to get around traffic ;)

All that suspension work and you put on little tires? :) What are you going to do when the mud gets deep? You need 38s. :teeth:

Back to topic... We are very lucky, and I am not bragging or gloating. I work from home and Holly is going to be working at a new school next year. Her commute is going to be cut from 20+ miles to 2. That should help. And her Elentra gets decent gas milage.

Not everyone can buy a new car, take public transportation, or ride a bike to work. As gas prices increase, the bottom line is, people will either pay it or they won't. If someone can't afford to drive to work, then they will be out of a job. Sad, but true.

I know what your talking about... And good luck this "filter" is going to cost you in the long run... This scam comes up EVERY time gas prices rise.....The magic $14.95 bullet....

OK then WHINING does not become you...

Now I am really rolling on the floor laughing. You posted about how "horrible SUV owners are for saying they can aford the gas" and you own one... What point were you trying to make????

At 19 to the gallon, it's decent for my Lumina. My parents pay for the gas in the car, however I think I will be chipping in a lot this summer. They did a lot for me this first year of college and I don't want to add to the cost of gas.

I was planning on visiting some college friends over summer, as of now I doubt that will happen.

I have never been a fan of the SUV. I find them tacky, but that's just me. Even the hybrid ones bother me, and in someways more. My next car will be a Prius, when I am done with college. Unless Chyrsler makes the Sebring convertible in hybrid, then that would be my choice :)

No problem. I really thought you were serious. I do agree the closer school would be better. Will you get a break before doing the student teaching?

Who posted that rubbish about K&Ns saving 10% fuel? You or me? :rolleyes2
I had K&Ns in most of my bikes - even 20 years ago. They make for a better intake sound and sometiems even better power, but they don't save 10%.
What do you sell besides them? Snake oil? :rotfl2:

What scam? The air filter is a forever filter that you clean out. I have them in all of our cars and the mileage is above the highway number for combined city and highway. I am an Engineer and I did research them before buying them. Not only do you get better gas mileage, but you save on filters in the long run.

Yes and it is a snarky detector.

I do use them and they DO increase the gas mileage.
