When DVC comes to DL...

Do you think you can still stay on points at DLH and GC - hotel rooms? The reason I ask is I am afraid there won't be any GCV points left by the time everyone in CA can buy...and we would like to use points for our 3-4 day DL trips every year or so. At least if we knew we could still use OKW points for hotel rooms that would be an option, although I really love a kitchen and washer/dryer!

I'm hoping we can still use PP & DLH when GC isn't available.

Based on WDW, PP and DL Hotels should still be in the Disney Collection, but they'll probably implement the $95 fee for those properties. It would be nice if the GC would still be included given the low number of villas being built, but I think they'll probably take it out.

I would agree with kerickson. The GC won't be available through the Disney Collection anymore, while both PP and DL hotels probably will be - but the $95 booking fee may apply.

There is talk of a 2nd DL DVC resort - but in GardenWalk - as DVC knows that the GC expansion isn't going to be enough.

The scuttlebutt around here is that Gardenwalk isn't the roaring success they expected. It's mostly empty, and we hear Disney doesn't want to commit to even running a hotel, never mind a DVC there.
Hopefully they will put the DVC inside the property.

I think that there will be plenty of points for us to buy between the slow economy and the fact that the majority of DVC'rs, on this board at least, don't have any interest in GVC. There were a comparable number of points for AKV Jambo units which just recently sold out after over a year of being available to the general public. Maybe I am overly optimistic but I don't think so.

I was at GardenWalk about a week ago. It is a big nothing. Concrete and stucco canyon, with very little plant life and even less open stores. It seems a very un-Disney place to even open the two Disney hotels that were planned. (and they were regular hotels, not DVC). I wonder now if Disney would even build them there. THey only thing I see is someone (perhaps Disney) buying the whole thing and remodling it. And then maybe it would be worthy of a Disney branded hotel.

I'm not so sure... There are not a large number of rooms available for DVC members staying on points at the GC (52 DVC Units I believe)... That alone might still leave the door open for GC reservations...

I've been there in the past month too, and it was BORING. It certainly doesn't live up to it's name with only a few plants here and there.

I've read on both MousePlanet and MiceAge though that the hotels were to be built and owned by someone else - but branded and operated by Disney.

I also recently read that the current owners of GardenWalk is already looking to sell - but unfortunately now is in a pinch since selling won't be easy being that the mall is not even half filled, and Disney won't commit to the hotel deal until occupancy is up... and getting a return on their investment won't be easy til the mall is fully operational or they can sell it.

I am REALLY hoping for this! Otherwise I guess there is always the resale market once GC sells out, since there are already quite a few AKV resales. At least I have some hope...
