When driving "Home" what do you use to pack in?

I was just wondering if anyone uses any thing other than luggage to pack their belongings. I was thinking of using some Rubbermaid totes but I wasn't sure what people would think. We will be staying at the DTD Hilton first before moving over the BWV. Is this not a good thing to do being of a classier hotel? I have stayed at our "Home" many times but never noticed what everyone uses. We will be Driving down from NJ. I was thinking of using one for our clothes and one for the groceries. Your opions please.

We have used a couple of those clear plastic containers with the folding lids on them....similar to the Rubbermaid things. We put non-perishable food in one (makes shopping easier in Orlando) and we put other sundry items in the other (can't remember exactly what right now).

And really, who cares what we look like as we check in?

We drive from Philly every year with 7 people in the van (mini van). What we use to pack saves us a bunch of room. We use those big green army bags, they almost look like large body pillows. They save us a whole lot of room. We have a small hatch area in the back of the van and we lay them long ways, this way we have a whole lot more room. They arent the best looking things in the world but they help save a lot of space.

Rubbermaid totes are the second-best invention ever, right behind the ziploc baggie! I have become a pro at packing our perishables in one of those totes for the trip down, and we use it as a laundry basket once we get to the BWV. Whaterver clothes I bring home dirty comes home in that thing, with our suitcases carrying the clean clothes and a leftover box of cereal or poptarts. My daughter calls us "The Beverly Hillbillies" when we pull up to the curb at BWV and roll out that tote and a box of Corona for DH, but the bell hops don't bat an eye, so they've probably seen worse. And I always point out to my daughter that while carrying one's breakfast fixings in a tote might not be the classiest of moves, seeing the trash piled in the hallways during our visits has convinced me that not all members are the classy kind. Pack your tote, Sweetie, so I won't be the only one doing so!

I believe in things being somewhat functional - so to me the totes sound like a great idea, as do the "body bags"!
As long as it works for you - Remember when going "home" it is a bit different than when checking into a typical hotel/motel room. DVC'ers tend to bring more food and food related stuff than the average tourist. I use the totes when we drive to carry that sort of thing, had not considered using them as luggage as well. You might want to send the idea to Rubbermaid - could pay for a few more points!!

We are driving next month from Minnesota. We would have never thought to bring the totes. It is a good idea, but I am not sure that my dw will think that it is the right thing to do.

I guess that you are right, that the bellhops have probably seen it all..

ONE WORD: HITCHHAUL. Best travel invention ever. Just slides into your tow hitch and hangs there, no wind resistance, easy to load and unload your bags, does not block your view, holds 4 large suitcases, leaves plenty of room to sleep. FriendsofEeyore, we just drove down over Christmas from Eden Prairie, let me know if you have any questions if you have never driven. We usually fly and plan to most often.

Personally, I like our method...101 plastic grocery bags. No matter what we do or well we've packed, our stuff is always a mess by the time we arrive.

When we pull up, you'd think we were moving in forever! In May we filled a luggage cart and then some! I LOVE the Rubbermaid bins and just like others, pack non-perishables in one. I use a smaller one for beach towels, pool gear, etc. and leave some extra space so that all the souvenires get packed in it for the ride home.

Johnny Fedora............we're with you!!! All those plastic grocery bags...............as much as I try to organize the SUV at just about every stop, the car is a mess when we arrive!!!

I always pack a small bag with a change of clothes and toiletries for all 5 of us for that over night stop!!! That way, I just have to take in one bag!!!

We have Mickey Mouse Duffel Bags that we use to pack our food and toiletries. It just looks like luggage on the cart going to our room. Sometimes we also have a softsided cooler with us. We're just not into the 9 million plastic bags look. I always have been behind the fashion trends .

Do you try to lock them in anyway if they have to stay in storage or do you just trust them? I was thinking of luggage straps and putting locks on them.

No, the containers we use just go on the luggage carts and into storage with everything else. I really don't think you need to lock them up, IMHO.

You are not going to Disney to impress anyone with your luggage so pack in whatever is easiest for you and your family. I never even thought about what we pack in. Just used suit cases, large bags for food or drinks but I think plastic would have been easier and roomier in the car.
I'm alway so excited to get there and have a good time. Never trying to impress any CM that handled my baggage. If they are friendly and helpful we just tip them well.
